Protection with Pill

Hi everyone
I’m looking for some advice / peace of mind! I’m 34 and just started a new relationship. I started taking Cerazette 2 weeks ago and had sex on Friday. I took the pill almost perfectly during week one, and perfectly during week two. We also used a condom. Yesterday and today I’m getting ovulation/fertilisation pains and some other symptoms of ovulation. I don’t know whether I’ve ovulated or if it’s maybe a symptom of cerazette or something entirely different. It’s day 18 today since my last ‘natural’ period, so if I wasn’t taking cerazette I’d definitely say I was ovulating. I contemplated being extra careful and looking for the morning after pill, when I called my pharmacy they said they’d give me ellaone, but I’ve read that can lower the effectiveness of cerazette. If I’m already safe enough, am I just putting myself at future risk by taking it and having it lower the effectiveness of cerazette? After you take it they tell you to use a barrier method until your next period but on this pill in the past I never got periods. I’m probably just getting worked up over nothing here but I’ve been a bit anxious all day.

Am I safe enough, or do I take ellaone, or do I try and find levonelle somewhere?
I don’t have children, I’d like to have them one day in the near future but my relationship is very new! I don’t want them just yet!

Hey,
I'm no expert (despite being on cerazette for 7 years, haha) but I think if you took the first pill during the first 5 days off your period, you are protected straight away. Also, if you were using condoms as an extra precaution, my guess would be that you have nothing to worry about.
The cramps may just be your body getting used to the pill, especially if this is the time you would normally be ovulating.
Sorry I haven't been much help. ❤

The pill + condoms + the MAP might be a bit OTT OP Grin

Thank you! I think if I was with this guy long term I wouldn’t even think about it but I’d be so embarrassed to fall pregnant the first time I slept with a new guy 😅
I was thinking I might go to a late night pharmacy later and just ask them what to do, they’ll probably think I’m crazy Blush

I think I just have it in my head for some reason that the cramps I’m feeling in my stomach is ovulation because the pill hasn’t started working yet Confused again, I could just be casually losing my mind Grin

I was on cerazette for 7 years and always got cramps around when I'd normally ovulate and then sore boobs every time my period was normal due

That’s good to know, I have the cramps and the sore boobs at the moment. I’ve done sos research and have seen that cerazette doesn’t necessarily stop ovulation, so even if I have ovulated it’s protecting me in a different way (hopefully!) I’ve only ever been on combined pills so I’m new to this

I believe it surpresses ovulation, not stops it completely but works more by preventing sperm from reaching the egg

My lower stomach just seems to be in knots today. But if it works in a different way to the combined pill I’m sure all is fine. I just got the fertile notification on my phone, my stomach was cramping and my mind went into overdrive. I then started reading on here all the women who got pregnant on cerazette which didn’t help matters!

I also got pregnant on it 😬😬 Sorry to add to it haha. But I know people on other pills who it's happened to too! So not just this one!

@SnooperTrooper12345 were you using it casually or half heartedly or using it perfectly when you fell pregnant?Shock

I was using it properly. Never missed one.

As I said though, it happens with all pills at times.
You'll just be seeing all the ones about cerazette because that's what you're searching for 😊

@SnooperTrooper12345 I was on Yasmin for approx 15 years with a couple of short breaks inbetween, no ‘accidents’. I guess I just assumed anyone getting pregnant on the pill wasn’t taking it properly!

That's what I'd always assumed to until it happened to myself!

There's lots of things that can affect it that I don't think people realise, like diarrhoea and throwing up, certain medications ect.

According to Google, 1 out of 100 women will get pregnant a year when taking the pill correctly and 9 in 100 will fall pregnant that don't take it fully correct.

I guess those statistics are actually quite high!

That's just the pill in general, not a certain one ❤️

I just did an ovulation test out of curiosity and sure enough I got the smiley face so I am ovulating as I suspected. I spoke to a pharmacist and he said as I’ve only been on cerazette a few weeks it’d be wise to err on the side of caution so I’ve taken ellaone, 64 hours laterSad I’ll continue the cerazette and use a barrier method for the foreseeable also. Perhaps also a test in a couple of weeks to ease the anxiety...or add to it as the case may be Confused
