Just thought I'd open this one up. I'm sure its been done before but what is the general consensus?

to drink or not whilst TTC? Should I give up completely or in moderation or give up at certain times??

There's so much advice from health officals, I don't know what to believe. So am opening this to the floor of MN

Hmmm, of course it's better to quit totally TTC, but, for most people I don't think that's going to happen. Just watch what you drink, stick to only a few drinks, not binging etc. I guess it's personal preference, if that makes sense. If you can give up totally, it won't hurt.

Back in July I went from booze hound to total abstinence, I also gave up caffeine. I believe this radical change in lifestyle contributed to my cycles lengthening as my body had to re-jig all the hormones and restore balance.

I've managed to stay off the teas and coffees, much easier to have a hot chocolate.

However, drinking was such a huge part of my social life that it was a shock to the system both physically and mentally when I stopped. I think the break definitely did me some good even if it hasn't helped get me a BFP, but I decided I wasn't going to be a fascist about it and I now have the occasional glass of wine, maybe one a week, but don't really find myself finishing it. However, I got sick of having to make a big fuss about not drinking and then getting my period.

You may find that it's an all or nothing for you. But if you like the odd drink now and again then you probably don't have to worry until you get your BFP.

well on both occasions I got preggers I'd consumed lots and lots of wine before hand both we're planned mind, in that vague, lets give it a go way! I think so long as you don't carry on drinking like a fish, all will be fine.

I think its okay to carry on as normal until you get that BFP. Like digitalgirl I also am very dissapointed when I miss out on social occasions because I'm not drinking and then my period arrives. After 9 months of TTC I have missed out on many nights out and am not yet PG. Now what I do is I drink as normal until about mid cycle, when I ovulate and then I am more careful i.e. maybe just one or two glasses of wine, until my period arrives.

I've found I've gotten used to not drinking and much prefer being the one who's not hungover. I also gave up tea and coffee, that was quiet hard. I now have one cup of decafe coffee a day and the occasional (maybe once or twice a week) cup of tea. I've found that by not having caffine and not drinking I get less headaches and I sleep better which is a deffinate bonus.

Probably shouldn´t admit this but I didn´t give up or cut down. The first time it took me 6 months to conceive, the second time it took 8 months. Am now nearly 17 wks pg & still have a couple of glasses of wine a week.
