Faint Line on Pregnancy Test Not Getting Darker - Help!

Wimbymom · 15/03/2021 11:53

Hello everyone!
I am absolutely desperate at the moment and could REALLY use some help: I am TTC and had two chemicals last year. Got a very faint (almost invisible line) at 12 DPO and then a faint but slightly darker line at 14 DPO, not took a test 16 DPO and it’s not darker but looks even lighter. Picture is attached - what do you think?!
I’m so worried I’m having yet another chemical as my boobs were sore as of yesterday but not since waking up this morning and I had some very mild cramping/backache yesterday. Any advice or words of reassurance are greatly appreciated!! Did anyone have something similar and go one to stay pregnant? Honesty appreciated too! I am 38 now so very worried my eggs are just all too old (have a 3 year old and had no problems conceiving but was 34 then)! Now it seems impossible.Feel like I am in my own world and no matter how much I tell myself not to let TTC consume my life it’s all I can think about and this feels like such a huge blow right now. Thank you so much in advance!

Sorry you're going through this. I definitely wouldn't say your eggs are old 💕

I've had 3 chemical pregnancies now and was told by the dr that it's usually to do with a chromosomal abnormality and apparently 25% end this way and we are noticing them more with earlier more sensitive tests.

Unfortunately mine stayed the same then got lighter when I had a chemical pregnancy but 🤞🏻for you!

Only way to know more would be test again in a few more days in case your urine was more diluted etc.

Could contact your dr see if they will do blood test to ease your mind as you've had losses before?

Good luck 🤞🏻

Thank you so much for your response firsttimemummy321! Good to know I’m not the only one with multiple chemicals (I know I’m not but it certainly feels that way sometimes)! I fear the worst since with my last ones the first thing I noticed was that my boobs felt normal again so I am not hopeful this time round either 😔. Did you see a doctors for your chemicals? And if so did they prescribe progesterone supplements? Just wondering if these will help for next time... thank you so much again!!

Sending you hugs it's horrible to go through and I hope this one sticks for you!

I had one then fell pregnant the following cycle with my little one who's now 1 and have had 2 in the last few months. As I had a pregnancy in between they haven't given me anything g but definitely worth speaking to them as if they can do a blood test even if it won't help this time they can help next time 🤞🏻

@Wimbymom Hi, I’m so sorry you may be having another chemical but you’re certainly not alone, I’ve had 2, one end of November and one last week. It’s pretty tough!

Have you had any blood tests with your doctor recently? I had a bloods ‘MOT’ just before my most recent chemical and I’m pretty sure my elevated TSH is causing the problem! I’ve booked into speak to my GP next week. If you haven’t had any tests I would contact your doctor even if its just for abit of a reassurance.

The whole TTC is emotional draining without throwing in chemicals! I really hope this one isn’t a CP for you xx

Wimbymom · 15/03/2021 16:45

I’m so sorry you had one just last week ChinChilly!! I obviously know how you feel. It’s so hard to not get excited each time too.
Well done to go to your GP and find the possible issue though! That’s reassuring as maybe they can do something about those levels.
I had all my blood work done last month actually and everything was normal (AMH Ovarian reserve test was slightly less than ideal for my age but nothing terrible)! So that’s why I’m worried I’m just too old and my eggs are all abnormal at this age... none of my chemicals have made it past 4 and a half weeks. Thank you for the kind words though! And good luck with your appointment next week! X

Thanks @firsttimemummy321 and congrats on the one year old! I’m sure being pregnant so recently you will be able to get pregnant again soon. I am going to speak with the GP this week to see if they can possibly prescribe progesterone maybe for the next time or if there is anything to be done. Good luck to you and hoping all this collective good mummy energy will give us all the baby dust we need! XX

Fwiw (having taken a fair few of these myself) those aren’t what I would describe as ‘faint positives’ they’re clear positives.

If you’re waiting for the test line to get as dark as the control line sometimes it just doesn’t. I had some bleeding at 9 weeks pregnant and was told to take a pregnancy test again. I took one of these and it looked like your tests. I’m now 26 weeks into that same healthy pregnancy!

Congrats and good luck XX

Wimbymom · 16/03/2021 17:49

Thanks @Windchangeface. I took another test this morning and same as yesterday (still faint). I am also worried because my breast and nipple soreness all of disappeared yesterday too (so at 16 DPO / 4 weeks 1 day). I also had a bit of blood mixed with cervical fluid when I wiped (sorry for the TMI). This is exactly what happened with my last chemical last year.... almost want to just get my period already at this point so I know for sure! This limbo land is the worst!
Did you ever have a dark line on your HPT or did they always look like mine? And did you still have pregnancy symptoms at the time? X

ChinChilly · 16/03/2021 18:34

@Wimbymom my lines never really got that dark, but i got a digital pregnant 1-2 weeks and then the brown/red spotting started and 2 days later my test was so faint, then the day after that it was negative. I didn’t really have any pregnancy symptoms so I can’t say when they disappeared. Keeping everything crossed that this isn’t another chemical for you! 🤞🏼

Chica1990 · 16/03/2021 21:49

I can’t comment from experience but wanted to let you know I have my fingers crossed for you @Wimbymom

Hullish · 16/03/2021 22:21

I also has three chemical pregnancies, my doctor prescribed cyclogest and my next pregnancy was successful.

Keeping everything crossed for you x

Jeds55 · 17/03/2021 17:43

How are you doing OP? I'm also pregnant after 3 consecutive mc so know exactly how you feel. It's so easy to get obsessed and over analyse tests, I've done loads since found out Sunday. I'm also 39 and have a 3 year old so understand the worry about time.
I started progesterone on Monday so really hoping it helps. I'm also taking baby aspirin 75mg- research it, some evidence it can help. Wishing you all the best

Wimbymom · 19/03/2021 18:31

Thanks @Jeds55 and @Hullish for your responses!
Congratulations on your birth @Hullish!! Great to hear the progesterone worked for you! I will look into that and the baby aspirin - thank you for the suggestions! I I spoke with my GP but they just said you need to see a fertility specialist as they can’t help so that will be my next step!
As a bit of an update I got my period yesterday so it was definitely a chemical.. very sad this week but I know I’m not alone now thanks to all your lovely responses so will soldier on and try again next month!
And congratulations @Jeds55 ! I hope this one sticks for you! I’m so sorry you’ve experienced three miscarriages too. I hope the progesterone and aspirin help you!! Thanks for all your stories and support. I really appreciate it. X

Congratulations

@Wimbymom sorry to hear that it turned out to be a chemical for you, it's soul destroying when it keeps happening. I thought GP or EPU would be the one to refer you on to recurrent mc clinic? If this goes wrong I'm chasing my GP up about my referral (have moved in meantime so not sure if I've got lost in the system).
Be kind to yourself, wishing you all the best for the future x

2KSS · 06/10/2023 15:37

How did things turn out? I’m going through the same and it’s so frustrating. I hope everything worked for you.

Wimbymom · 06/10/2023 19:17

Hi! I’m so sorry you are going through the same thing. At least with groups like this we realise that we are not alone and these things are not uncommon!
So with that pregnancy I had a chemical on maybe day 33 or around then so it didn’t stick. So the line not getting darker over 5 days was a telltale sign unfortunately. But the next month I had zero pregnancy symptoms and got another positive test which did get darker each day (and of course I went nuts with the testing to make sure). This is a pic of my next months tests. With the chemical it was just very faint and never got darker. My son is now 21 months and it was a perfect pregnancy at 39. I have two boys so def done now!

Good luck and just remember every cycle is different and a new chance :) Sending you good vibes and baby dust!

I just typed a huge message and lost it, annoying! Huge congratulations @Wimbymom so happy that things worked out for you the next month. My pregnancy stuck and I now have a dd turning 2 next month. Maybe it was the progesterone that helped that time, who knows.
@2KSS wishing you all the best. Early pregnancy is such a roller coaster of emotions. I don't know how people test just the once and walk away. Hoping things work out for you
