Positive ovulation test 10dpo?

KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 11:18

Hi, just as the post says really, I think I’m 10dpo from my ovulation tests, cd39. I have irregular longer cycles, but just decided to take a test to see what it says and I think it’s positive? Does this mean I’m only just ovulating now?
Thanks in advance x

I don't think that's positive. I think the test line needs to be as dark or darker than the control line. I'd still dtd as you're probably in your fertile week and keep testing everyday till you get your peak. You could download the Femometer app and you can take a pic of your test and it tells you if positive or not.

@KatieA1234 try taking a pregnancy test as opk can pick up hcg

sebbiesmum · 08/03/2021 12:00

Oh sorry 10dpo not cd10. Yeah I'd take a pregnancy test.

KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 12:05

Oh really? I didn’t know that, I’ll take one in the morning with my first morning urine.
Thanks ladies.
It’s my first cycle trying with ovulation tests and find it all abit confusing 🙈 x

Was your test 10 days ago actually positive or similar to this one in the pic? As someone else mentioned, that's not a peak result so you could be nearing ovulation now.

When in doubt, jump on OH just in case.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 08/03/2021 12:49

Theres 2 options:

  1. You did ovulate 10 days ago, youre pregnant and the ovulation test is picking up on hcg OR
  2. Your LH (measured by ovulation tests) rose 10 days ago but your body didnt manage to ovulate (these tests dont mean you actually will for sure). So this is your body trying again to ovulate. Unfortunately if you tend to have long cycles, this might be quite likely. My body usually has about 3 goes before it manages!
KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 13:08

@Juno231 it was similar to the one in the pic, but as it went fainter the following day and days after I thought I may of missed the peak as I’ve only been testing in a morning. But yes your right, I’ll keep testing to see if it gets darker x

@TheDaydreamBelievers okay that’s good to know, thankyou ☺️ I will keep dtd just incase, I just presumed I had as my cycles are usually around 38-42days since coming off my pill last July x

That's not a positive opk. It needs to be as dark or darker for it to be positive. Mine fluctuate like that. I use premom app which had a function where you can photograph and track your OPKs.

Like a pp said, it could be that you are pregnant and it's picking up HCG. Fingers crossed!

If you have long cycles then I'd definitely recommend SMEP (just dtd every other day from the end of your period. Get easy@home OPKs rather than the one steps, I've found them much more reliable.

KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 13:23

@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise yes that is on the Premom app 😊. Okay thankyou I will do that if nothing happens this cycle! This is ttc my second, I thought it would be easier but definitely not 😅 x

You may be missing your surge.

I was just about to post to say you're testing too early in the day but the previous poster beat me to it!

KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 13:28

@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise I did think that! I will start testing twice a day x

OP posts:
KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 13:29

@bitheby ohh right, so don’t test with FMU? Just after 12pm?x

Second morning urine you could probably get away with but definitely not fmu if you have a short surge.

KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 13:41

@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise Ok thanks. I’ve been doing it all wrong 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve never used them before as you can probably tell 🤣

OP posts:
GreenSlide · 08/03/2021 13:42

Not FMU. When I did it I think I did 10am, 5pm, 10pm. You have to test that often because even if you miss the surge you'll still be able to tell from the darkness of the lines when it was likely to have been.

KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 13:47

Just done another out of curiosity and I think it’s positive now?

Definitely looks positive to me! 👍☺️
KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 13:55

@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise thankyou! Must be having an extra long cycle 🙈 Just as I thought they were getting into a more of a regular 40-42 day cycle 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 x

OP posts:
TheDaydreamBelievers · 08/03/2021 16:02

@KatieA1234 its so confusing but yeah, as @GreenSlide and @AlexaPlayWhiteNoise said its pregnancy tests using FMU; OPKs using afternoon wee (right pain when at work all day)

KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 16:11

@TheDaydreamBelievers thankyou! It looks like my peak is now so must be having an extra long cycle for some reason 🙈 x

OP posts:
Juno231 · 08/03/2021 16:24

Woop jump OH! And my best test result is SMU but agree not to use FMU :)

KatieA1234 · 08/03/2021 16:40

@Juno231 haha that’s my plan when the little one is in bed 🤣

OP posts:
bitheby · 08/03/2021 18:38

I test every wee between the hours of 10 am and 10pm on the day I'm likely to get the surge, less often the previous few days. I get short surges and I don't want to miss it.
