Low progesterone questions. Worried!

Hi all,

After over a year of trying I recently started the tests. My bloods have come back low progesterone and they have asked to check again. I have been on Google, which I know is the worst thing to do but I can't help it, and it seems like it could be bad. They hadn't rang me, I went about something else and as I left mentioned my bloods must have been okay so they checked and have told me I must get it redone and not to forget when I go for my day 21 bloods as it is low.

Infertility and struggling to keep a pregnancy (if you actually get pregnant) keep coming up.

I'm now really worried. Has anyone else had this and conceived okay?

I have regular but very light periods.

Hey @Lovebug06 what was your progesterone value? And define light periods? How light and how many days

thislittlebird · 25/02/2021 17:55

Yeah I would ask the same thing @Lovebug06. There’s low, low and low. I had low progesterone recently on a day 21 test where they’re not sure I’m ovulating but some people have low progesterone that’s barely low at all etc.

I had CD21 bloods done this month, they were a little low at 27.5 but I'm not too sure when I ovulated (missed my peak on OPKs) and got my BFP the following week. Bloods have been redone to check progesterone levels again but awaiting the results.

AKcheer · 26/02/2021 17:15

@33Carr mine came back at around your figure too. Congrats on your BFP....were your levels ok?

33Carr · 26/02/2021 17:21

@AKcheer No idea, results aren't back yet so I won't find out till Monday now. Doesn't bode well if they are low 😣

I was given progesterone pessaries after being diagnosed with low progesterone for my last two pregnancies. The first pregnancy I used them from ovulation onwards and the second I used them from the positive test onwards - both successful pregnancies after previous miscarriages before the diagnosis.

@Vixyvix Thanks, sorry to hear of your losses but great news about your successful pregnancies 🥰 Can you remember how low your progesterone was?

Vixyvix · 27/02/2021 09:41

Thank you. Yes my progesterone was 5 ng/ml - the first doctor who looked at it (gp) wasn't concerned but I got a second opinion from a consultant in the early pregnancy unit at my local hospital who was the one to prescribe my pessaries.

@Vixyvix Okay thank you 😊

Thankyou all.
I went the next day for bloods and asked. The nurse said she didn't know why the nurse the previous day had said that and worried me, as it is low at that time of the month and she shouldn't have said anything. And told me not to stress.
I had to have the bloods on day 20 as 21 was a Saturday so I hope that's okay. I think I can get results later today so fingers crossed it's okay.
Its been my first month of this, and the nurse asked me what I'd be doing if the results aren't good. But I don't know Its my first month starting these checks, I guess they'd redo the bloods before fertility clinic to check again?
My periods are really light. I'd say 2 days at the very most. And a lot of the 2nd day would just be spotting. The first I'll have some on the pad but more when I wipe if that makes sense? I'd probably only need one pad for all of it. My periods were never this light on the pill but I've been off that for over a year and they have always been regular since too. Hoping this isn't a problem.
AF due this week so the familiar feeling of dread is coming over me.

CD21 bloods can be misleading. What they actually need is 7dpo bloods (which in an average cycle is day 21)

Before worrying too much, make sure your next blood test is booked for 7dpo and go from there.
