Hello!

Firstly, I am very new to Mumsnet so please forgive me if I don't understand abbreviations!

Me and my other half have just started trying to conceive. We've been together 8 years (engaged, not married) and we're both 33.

I'm using the Clearblue advanced ovulation kit to try and find my peak days, but I've had a week of flashing smiley 'high fertility'. I must also add that I am unsure of my cycle. I've been very irregular in the past so thought I'd try and track it this way, rather than guessing.

Has anyone else found these to be unreliable? Also, the lines are really inconsistent.. I am so lost and I've been searching the internet hours at a time for helpful tips on conceiving.

Many thanks

Hi @frandler, I'm 33 too and started using OPKs this month. I had 7 days of flashing smiley and then a peak on the 7th day evening!

Once you get flashing smiley I would test morning and afternoon as the LH surge is often picked up later in the day.

Also, wouldn't worry about the line colours too much as I don't think they're designed to be read like the strips!

There are much more experienced users here who might have better advice but that's my 2 pennies worth :)

Thank you so much for a quick reply! I feel a little bit less 'mad' knowing someone else had had the same outcome from this test.

Il take your advice and try in the evening aswell. Thank you!! Grin

Looks like the 23rd is getting there! I agree to test in the afternoon now as well in case you miss it.

I had 11 flashing days in January! Static on day 12 (CD21) and currently 6 weeks pregnant. Don't worry if you get lots of flashing, just means your oestrogen is higher than your baseline but you haven't had LH surge, it will come :) x

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement ladies! Ovulation info online is frying my brains! Fingers crossed the smiley face will soon stop flashing so I know where I standSmile x
