Anyone planning on TTC this summer!?

We're planning on TTC our second this summer and I'm already starting to get a little obsessed and impatient waiting to start! We can't start earlier for financial/practical/health reasons, but wondered if anyone is in the same boat! 🥰

I’m seriously thinking about it! It feels completely insane as we’ve just got back on a bit more of an even keel but I think if we leave it too long it’ll be hard to go back to the newborn stage. DD is just one now, so thinking of TTC number 2 when she’s around 18m. DD was a wonderful surprise after throwing caution to the wind once(!) so I feel like we have to be really ready before we start trying as if that’s anything to go by I’m guessing it won’t take long. What would your age gap be?

orangejuicer · 21/02/2021 08:53

Yes fingers crossed TTC for our second as well but I need to lose weight first and it's not going well!

Missingthebridegene · 21/02/2021 09:19

Eek it really feels like the prep starts now I think! My daughter is 27 months, and I also have two step children almost 7 and 9. The main reason we wanted to wait a little longer than we probably would have ideally would is for the older two to get slightly older! So if we got pregnant quickly (like last time) they would be 3, 8 and 10 which feels kiiiiiiiind of ok! My friends just had her second when her first was 22months and it's been tricky but she's mainly found that the newborn just slots around the firsts routine so it's been manageable!

The thought of sleepless nights again terrifies me, and my daughter still fights bedtime so I feel like we have a year for that to resolve, and potty train! 😂 x

I am very newly off the pill and we are planning to start trying around May time. This would be our first!

Missingthebridegene · 21/02/2021 11:03

@Trinacham exciting! Are you feeling chilled or obsessive like me!?

I'm worried it'll take a while this time as I'm older! X

Quite obsessive - it is all I'm thinking about. I want to be more chilled about it! It is a long time coming for us as we've been together 11 years, married for 4. I worry a lot and really wanted to wait for the 'right' time. That was supposed to be last year, then Covid started. We learnt that there isn't ever going to be one. I'm now 30 and worried that time could run out, as it isn't quick for everyone (and this is our first so no idea about our fertility!), and I would like to think we'll have more than one!
Do you mind me asking how old you are?

PumpkinsMum18 · 21/02/2021 11:18

Tentatively joining.... my DD is one next week and I like the idea of TTC for second later this year! It’s my 30th birthday in July at possibly after that. Although I am a bit nervous about being pregnant and looking after a toddler! Her first year has been mostly in lockdown so I also want to enjoy doing lots of fun things with her before I’m too big and tired 😂 we shall see!

@Dillybear it looks like we are in a similar position 😊

kittylau44 · 21/02/2021 11:51

Hey everyone! Me and my OH are starting this summer and I'm sooooo excited!! I've been waiting for years to start TTC but partner wanted to wait and wanted to work on his career first which was hard to accept at the time but looking back I'm glad we've waited. I'm a bit nervous about TTC as I've got endometriosis and had surgery for it last year, I know some people still conceive with endo but I'm prepared for it to take a little while. Currently taking all the supplements I can to make sure my body is as healthy as possible 🙏🙏 Roll on summer!

glassshoes · 21/02/2021 11:58

I am similar! We are getting married in April and planning to start trying in June. Very exciting but trying to be mindful we don't know how long it will take etc. Have come off hormonal contraception and keeping an eye on cycle length etc at present.

Dillybear · 21/02/2021 12:04

@PumpkinsMum18 yes it does sound like we are in a similar position!

How did everyone find their first pregnancies? My first pregnancy wasn’t awful but I was in and out of hospital quite a bit and was so tired but unable to sleep for most of it, as I was constantly either peeing or trying to pee, or feeling like I needed to pee! I’m worried about how I’ll cope with that again with a toddler. But it will be hard at any time so I think I just need to get through it.

Missingthebridegene · 21/02/2021 12:39

@Trinacham I'm 36 so I know I'm not ancient but still classed as geriatric by fertility standards!

@Dillybear my first pregnancy was tricky with various health complications and I'm anxious at the idea of looking after a toddler whilst dealing with those again! We're planning to put her in nursery for an extra day if I'm struggling xx

I've added some his and hers conception vitamins to my Amazon basket! 😂 x

@Trinacham I think you're right there is never a perfect time-theres always something to potentially worry about I think. Even if covid stuff settles this year who knows what next year could bring!? So I think you're right to just go for it! Xxx

I agree. Looks like the pandemic will be around to the end of this year, so around two years in total. I think for a lot of us, there's quite a limited time where there's an ideal enough balance between being secure/financially secure enough and running into fertility concerns. I think life is too short. And with the vaccine, really hoping babies conceived this summer will be born in a lesser Covid type situation in 2022. But I think there's only so much waiting to be sure I can do!

Missingthebridegene · 21/02/2021 14:07

Couldn't agree more @glassshoes! X

PumpkinsMum18 · 21/02/2021 15:12

@Dillybear My first pregnancy was pretty straightforward, no health issues or complications. My commute to work was very long which was tough, especially towards the end of pregnancy when I was getting tired and achey. But I have left that job now and hoping the next job I have will be much closer to home so I won’t have that problem. I also know what you mean about needing to wee all the time, especially during the night!

Lelophants · 21/02/2021 15:57

Really hoping to! Dh still on the fence about when to start but hoping to. If not then hopefully by September latest!

Also impatient, although I know the second we start I'll get all nervous again.

It was so quick the first time I need to convince dh that it might not be so plain sailing.

Lelophants · 21/02/2021 15:58

My ds turns 18 months in May so ideally we'd start then.

Trying to up the exercise and be a bit healthier. Eating too much though 🤦🏻‍♀️

Missingthebridegene · 21/02/2021 16:34

Well fingers crossed for us all! My daughter was born in winter so I think it'd be a really lovely and different experience to have a spring/summer baby! Xx

What months are everyone starting?

I've just downloaded the Sarah Ockwell-Smith book called Second Baby

Missingthebridegene · 21/02/2021 19:02

Ooh will check that out! End of June here I think! Just four more cycles of no symptom spotting! X

@Missingthebridegene very similar to you. DS is 8 months and we want to wait until he's a year before TTC #2. I'd have ideally waited until he was a bit older but I'm also 36 so feel like we shouldn't wait any longer than necessary.

I can't imagine having another baby but I also can't imagine DS being an only child. Both DH and I have siblings and want the same for him. It's a daunting prospect though 🙈

Missingthebridegene · 21/02/2021 21:27

@IamMrsO well done on your weight loss that's fab! Deffo best to feel your best/healthiest prior to pregnancy, especially if you're anticipating it being tricky. Fingers crossed your body reacts differently this time!

@HardcoreParkour the biological clock is so cruel isn't it!!!!!! It's a little frustrating that we have to consider second babies earlier than we might ordinarily simply due to age, even though we're still young! Xx

Hey everyone!!!!! I was just taking my pre-conception vitamins and wondered how everyone's getting on?! Are people still planning to start trying in summer and are you doing anything to prepare?! I've started taking vitamins but really feel I need to get fitter and cut down on caffeine and naughty foods!

We got pregnant straight away last time so my partner is convinced I don't need to worry about fertility, but he doesn't realise my 36 year old eggs won't be as good as my 33 year old ones! Xxx

avidavocado · 19/04/2021 22:46

Eek! Exciting isn't it? We are thinking of TTC baby number 1 in June/July. Started prenatal vitamins, down to one cup of coffee per day and DH has managed likewise!

Enjoying the G+Ts and Wine whilst I can!

Feels funny planning things like family coming to stay in autumn when I'm not sure if I'll be pregnant, or very enthusiastically DDT!
