SMEP how does your OH cope?

Before TTC we would BD once or twice a week max and that worked for us.
I've been thinking about taking the SMEP approach for the next cycle but I'm worried that OH won't produce as much...
For anyone who has tried this method, how did you find it? Any tips and advice would be great!
Or anything that can help him too?
Thank you

We are normally a once or twice a week couple. Doing it 3-4 days in a row is a major effort...but we have managed it the last 3 months. I have miscarried and had a chemical in 2 of those, and in tww again this time so actually getting pregnant wise it's def worked well for us so far. Just a shame it doesn't actually work out!

Diorissimo1985 · 19/02/2021 22:22

It worked for us but yes, DH was exhausted. Happy, but exhausted Grin I thought it was all quite fun!

We are same with once or twice a week. We tend to try and do it, wait two days, do it again. repeat. When I'm ovulating we try to do it for 2/3 days straight. Its a massive effort tbh.

We started smep this month. So far DTD cd7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and still no positive OPK! Hubby is knackered 😂😂

tulips87 · 20/02/2021 00:11

Thanks ladies! You've all worried me now haha. hubby is going to be shattered! He's already complaining that he feels the 'pressure' (obviously he doesn't mind BD'ing) but I'm worried that we are going to burn ourselves out.

@tulips87 maybe don't tell him what you are following so it eases the pressure to perform. Depending on your circumstances, you could try and initiate and make it as fun as possible. Plus he may need a lie in over the weekend 😂

OH and I are normally a once or twice a month (if that!) kind of couple!

I find he has an easier time of it if I don't tell him it's 'because I'm in my fertile window' and rather just come on to him/tell him I'm really in the mood! Which is also true as sex drive ramps up a bit! I'm the higher of the two of us anyway so it's not unusual for us.

He definitely finds it tiring after a week or so (every other day mostly) but he wants a baby just as much as me, if not more. So he knows we're working towards something important 😍

Thanks for all of your replies!!
He's more than happy to go along with it, the last few cycles he knew when I was in FW and we BD more than we usually would.
I'm just worried that with SMEP I'm going to wear him out and he won't produce as much sperm if we are going to do it every other day then 3days in a row? Could that work against us?
Is there anything that could help with that? Foods?

We started SMEP one month and it was too much pressure for him. We just weren't enjoying it. Like you, we normally DTD once or twice a week. It is worth a try but try not to get too upset if you arent able to keep it up!

Hello, im going to do the SMEP plan this month. Im using the clear blue OPK, is it the flashy face i count as positive or when it goes to static? I normally get 4-5 flashy faces before my static, so just want to make sure we DTD 3 times in a row at the right point. Thankyou

Tried SMEP last month, using CB ovu kits. Got 10 flashing smileys, no static, so had sex every day for two weeks pretty much. We were worried to miss it, but it was a lot. Partner loved it, I was a bit over it by the end.

I read that every day is good for sperm quality (albeit a smaller quantity) when we were looking into it, unless your partner had a low sperm count.

My tip would be quickies, and do some mornings or straight after work so it doesn’t feel like too much of a chore last thing when you’re knackered and just want to sleep!

tulips87 · 06/03/2021 19:05

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 every day for two weeks?! I wish I had your drive!
I'm usually over it by two days in a row 🤣
I'm day 5 of flashing smileys and DTD every other day atm then hopefully if I get a static we will DTD 3 days in a row. I don't want to wear us out too early if we are going to have so many flashing smiles.

@tulips87 I think I’d kind of over invested even by the 5th or 6th day so didn’t dare stop 😂 I think every other day is a good plan, and think I’ll aim for a mix of it next month
