Mini-pill question from a newbie

Hi there. I was taking the mini-pill (Noriday) for about 8 months. before that I had a long time where I wasn't on any pill at all. Apart from the occassional bit of bleeding mid month (not often at all) my periods continued as normal. My doctor tolf me that I may not be fully protected as I was still getting periods. Anyway - last month I decided to come off the pill but 3 days before I planned to I had a very early and very heavy period (about 10 days early)and terrible abdominal pain.

I have never had painful periods so I was a bit concerned. It stopped though, and halfway through I ended my pill packet and just stopped taking it.

Basically my question is - I am expecting to get my period as normal on about 9th nov but am wondering what other people's experience is of the mini pill and their periods? Did your periods stop completely while on the mini-pill? Did anyone have trouble with them restarting? I am assuming that as mine never stopped I won't get what a lot of other women seem to and have to wait for ages for my periods to reappear.

Also - I know everyone says you should wait for a period before you start trying but we haven't, we've just gone straight into trying. I have been taking folic acid, am as far as I know very healthy, I know the date of my last period (Albeit an early one) and so I didn't want to hang about (I am 37 by the way!).

Hi
I was on the mini pill until last week and i didnt come on at all whilst on it (lucky me) It gave me bad acne so am having to reply on condoms until we try for our 2nd baby prop next year.

I havent had any bleeding yet...

When I got p.nant I didnt wait a month either, the only reason they say that is so you have a date of the first day of last period to work out your due date so dont worry about all that!

Taking folic acid is obv the best thing to do. You arent doing anything wrong so just go for it and enjoy trying for a baby!

I had periods every 6 weeks to 4 months while on the mini-pill, very irregular but TBH my cycle while not on the pill is the same and always has been. Some people's periods stop completely when on it but some just get slowed down a little.

I too had a period just before stopping it and conceived within a few weeks afterwards, much quicker than when I was TTC after being on the combined pill.

Good luck!

I had perefctly regular periods whilst on mini pill - have never come across anything which said that you weren't protected if that was the case - that would alarm me - except that I've used it for a total of 7 years with no problems - so tbh either we've been very fortunate or your doctor was taking out of his hat

well, yes. My new doctor seems to think there was no problem at all. I think he maybe thought I was on a different mini-pill. Noriday apparently doesn't always stop your periods at all.

I am probably a week away from getting my period (Maybe less) and I feel so ratty that I can only think it's PMT rathr than pregnancy symptoms.
