Trying to conceive after miscarriage

I unfortunately had a miscarriage last week around 6 weeks 💔 I've been seen by my local epu a couple of times last week for blood tests to monitor my hcg levels which dropped by 18% the first time and then again this week where they dropped by a further 10% and are sitting around 144. I've to go back for another blood test next week to check these again and likely will continue to be monitored to make sure they continue to fall.

Absolutely heartbroken but we would like to start trying again when possible but I'm not sure the process for that. Do my hcg levels need to be at 0 before I'm likely to fall pregnant again or can you start trying if the levels are still in your system and once the bleeding has stopped? The nurse said to wait for one period but have seen people say that's mainly just for dating a pregnancy.

Thanks in advance 🙂 x

@Optimistic2021
Sorry to hear that 😓
Similar situation, I got a BFP last Tuesday, started bleeding heavily on Sunday and got confirmed yesterday that I miscarried @ 5 weeks. My periods were irregular so wasn't aware of my dates.
The nurse recommended to me to wait for at least 1-2 periods to make sure my body has recovered and so I have time to get over this mentally. This was our first so I am still devastated this has happened, but life can be so cruel 😓

Optimistic2021 · 17/02/2021 21:05

@emfl01 so sorry that it's happened to you too, it's so upsetting and hard to accept 💔 it was our first too and we were so excited.

Mines started last Tuesday and I knew by Wednesday that it was a miscarriage. Bleeding wasn't overly heavy but deep down I just knew. I feel like the grief comes in waves, had a fairly good day today (first day of no tears!) but every other day since I've really struggled. It's hard to pick yourself up and I don't think people fully understand how devastating it is unless they have been through it.

Hope your doing ok 💐 x

I'm so sorry. This happened to me at 7 weeks. I was told not to try until my levels went down to a negative pregnancy test, I think to ensure no retained matter. Then they said fine to crack on. We ended up waiting for my period after the miscarriage to start, and actually that was over two weeks late anyway so I would have been on tenterhooks had I been trying that month

emfl01 · 17/02/2021 21:11

@Optimistic2021
It is! I honestly didn't realise how much this would affect me. Today is also my first day of no tears 🤞🏻
I'm still bleeding now.. the nurse said it could be up to 10 days and then I should get a normal period a few weeks after that.
We desperately want to try again but I want to make sure I'm fully recovered mentally and physically before that. So we are going to wait 3 months before trying again ❤️

@Optimistic2021 @emfl01
So sorry for your losses.
I got a BFP at the end of Jan, started bleeding on 6/2. And by the 10/2 my HCG was 12.

I bled til the 12/2 and have started with OPK's as of the 15th.

I had a MMC at 8 weeks, back in June and it took 3 months to have a natural period, so I've decided not to wait for a natural period this time round. I'm 41 and feel like I don't have the time to spare so want to know exactly when I ovulate straight away.

I noticed once my periods started my ovulation which used to be on day 15-18, moved earlier within my cycle which I think is why it took a while to get pregnant again.
Fingers crossed we all start ovulating sooner rather than later x

Gamechanger2019 · 17/02/2021 21:35

Sorry for your losses ladies, I was in similar position at 7 weeks @ start of Jan. I decided to try straight away (well two weeks after) when I got high ovulation sadly didn’t have joy last month but currently in my TWW now. My cycle has been ok although this month my ovulation high was much longer than normal, from reading various posts as ever I think everyone is different. I think you’ve just got to do what’s right for you. Personally I feel like I need to be pregnant in August (when I would have been due) and either be pregnant or have a baby by Christmas given I was pregnant last Christmas. Best of luck to everyone xxx

Optimistic2021 · 17/02/2021 21:39

So sorry for you all 😔

My hcg seems to be falling really slowly and it was still at 144 at the start of the week so can't imagine I'll get a negative test for a while. Bleeding only lasted a week thankfully and wasn't even as heavy as a period. Not sure if it's worth using ovulation sticks yet either if the hcg is still high 😕

We're keen to start trying again soon rather than waiting just incase it's messed my cycle up too. My periods were normally so accurate that I'm really hoping it hasn't 🤞

It's just rubbish after trying for 4 months to even be back thinking about trying again! X

@Optimistic2021 after my first mc I waited for a period and it took 18 months to get pregnant again. Had another mc and after a negative test had sex a few times. Wasnt even trying but thought after how long it took the previous 2 times to get pregnant there would be no way I'd get pregnant before having a period.

Never got that period and im now 8 weeks.

I'd definitely wait till a negative test because if not you could think your pregnant again and its hcg from your last pregnancy giving you a positive

Ritamarie85 · 17/02/2021 22:27

Hi ladies,

So sorry for your losses. It’s so heartbreaking.

I just wanted to share my experience. I fell pregnant last Year and miscarried at around 7weeks. I had scans and bloods taken to make sure my levels were back to normal. I asked my OB when I could try again and she said basically as soon as I wanted (natural miscarriage). They did recommend to wait a cycle but that was purely for dating the pregnancy. Anyway I ovulated 11 days after I stopped bleeding. Decided I needed to try. I didn’t want to wait. Anyway I fell pregnant. And he’s now 6 months old. This is just my story. And I know things are different if you had to have any medical procedures done.

I hope you all get your rainbow babies soon x

Optimistic2021 · 22/02/2021 15:24

Got my next lot of blood results a week later and my hcg has only fallen by 28% this time so to go for a scan later in the week as they aren't sure what is going on 😭 Anyone experienced what appears to have been a miscarriage but really slow falling hcg levels almost two weeks later?

No pain other than period type cramping whilst bleeding. Bleeding lasted a week but was pretty light and less than a normal period.

Thanks x

Ah sorry to hear that @Optimistic2021, that didn’t happen to me but I have heard of occasions where people still levels in there system for weeks. 🤞🏼 For next week! xx

dippyegg32 · 22/02/2021 19:34

@Optimistic2021 I had a mmc in December and today finally, 11 weeks later my HCG is 3.8. I had some retained tissue which was slowing the decline. Have you been scanned to check for this?

Optimistic2021 · 22/02/2021 20:55

@dippyegg32 I've to get a scan this week to see if it shows anything. We want to try again so just hoping it starts to drop soon.

Sorry to hear that yours has taken so long 😔 a miscarriage is bad enough without then being left in limbo waiting isn't it.

OP posts:
PinkCookie11 · 22/02/2021 21:16

I’ve done IVF and had a MMC first round, I was told to wait a cycle.
You want to make sure you have no retained tissue as this can be very dangerous for you.
And can also give a false positive if it’s coming down slowly.
It’s a kick in the teeth but worth it for your health!
Sorry for what you’ve been through

Optimistic2021 · 25/02/2021 13:47

Scan showed a small sac in my womb 😔 to go back for another blood test next week.

They don't think it's an ectopic but I have a feeling it'll end up with needing medication. I only had bleeding for a week and nothing since, coming up 3 weeks since miscarriage now. Can you body still pass this after 3 weeks and no bleeding for 2 or is medication the likely option - anyone been in a similar position?

OP posts:
blondie87 · 25/02/2021 13:49

So sorry to hear that. I had a mc at 6 weeks, waited until I’d had a period then conceived my second cycle post mc. My rainbow baby is now almost one. I hope you are ok.

blondie87 · 25/02/2021 13:50

Oh sorry just seen your latest post. I’m not sure I’m afraid. I hope a doctor can advise you.

monkeyy97 · 25/02/2021 14:08

@Optimistic2021

I only had a week bleed and now my levels are back to 0 and a negative test. I didn't need any medication, So we have started trying again 😊

Optimistic2021 · 25/02/2021 14:20

@blondie87 thank you. Just seems to be blood tests and then more blood tests but not a lot happening and levels not dropping much, it's so frustrating 😔 just want to draw a line under it all now and move on/try again!

Congratulation on your rainbow baby 😊

Gamechanger2019 · 25/02/2021 19:37

@Optimistic2021 if they can still see something now did they not offer you the option of medical today?

Optimistic2021 · 25/02/2021 20:13

@Gamechanger2019 had the scan on Tuesday. The doctor did an internal examination too and then they just said I was to go back next week for another blood test to check hcg levels. I'm not in pain so not sure if that's why they aren't doing anything other than monitoring hcg levels but bleeding has stopped and I can't see how it's going to resolve itself. Will ask again next week as don't want to just wait and nothing to happen and then however many weeks down the line need medication anyway.

OP posts:
Gamechanger2019 · 25/02/2021 20:17

@Optimistic2021 poor you it’s awful to go through anyway without having to endure it even longer. 🤞🏼 For next week!

Lizbb · 26/02/2021 23:05

@Optimistic2021 so sorry for your loss. I suffered a mc at 11 wk in jan coming off the pill in nov. I've researched and have learnt so much as the support from epu wasnt all that. Had my af bk after bk 4 weeks wait so will ttc in march. They do say u can try straight away but my mw said to wait for 1 period so as for the lining etc to heal. I pray you feel better. Stay rested
