Can pregnancy tests turn positive?

Hi there!
I’ve been trying to conceive for almost a year and I was just looking for some advice!
My period is late by almost a week and I’ve taken two pregnancy tests, both of which turned positive after a few hours.
I’ve googled all about evaporation lines but these tests weren’t dry?
I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone before or is this just wishful thinking?
Thank you so much!

oooo that is strange. I have always heard that you should disregard any results after 10 minutes or so.

After being a week late, a BFP would come up pretty quickly, sometimes event before the control line! However, if you're a week late and it's unusual for you, you might be one of those people who only find out they're pregnant through a blood test.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your reply!
Yeah I’ve been pregnant before but sadly I miscarried and the first time I got a BFP was on the day after my missed period so it seems very strange!
Also the lines are blue and not colourless like an evaporation line would suggest?
It’s so odd!

What brand are you using?
Might be worth calling the doctors and asking for a blood test to confirm either way x

I’m using clear blue and they are the super sensitive ones so I thought they would definitely show up straight away if I was pregnant? I think it’s just wishful thinking and if I hadn’t gone and pulled them out the bin then I wouldn’t be getting my hopes up! 🙈 silly me!

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I don't have experience with blue lines, being biased, I would always prefer the pink dye. I just think it's much more easy to read. After a pink dye test, I would second giving the blood test option a try. I think there are tests you can buy online that use blood instead of urine.

Bluey20 · 17/02/2021 12:28

Aw thank you!
Yes I’ve ordered some first response and hoping they will give me a clearer reading!
I’ll get in touch with the doctors soon if my period doesn’t arrive!

I did have a test that changed positive after a few hour, then a few days later a positive within the time frame, but that was really early on (7dpo). I think if you have a tiny amount of hormone, but not enough for the test, it can continue react and colour the test line after the time.

But if your periods already later, then it should be showing within the time, maybe try with a pink dye test, as there less easy to confuse with evap. If that shows colour then maybe speak to a doctor and see if they'll do a blood test, it could be that you ovulated later then you thought, but could also be a chemical.

Thank you so much- this is all really helpful advice! I thought people would think I just sound really daft! Thank you!

Hi Bluey20 I’ve literally just started my own thread with the same thing (before seeing your post) I’m due Saturday and tested Tuesday morning with a clear blue early detection. This is a pic of my test which I’m sure is after the 10mins period as I checked it about 20mins later! The line is really blue in person but I can’t help think that it’s a false positive! Fingers crossed yours is a BFP and not an evap!

Hi Coxy88! Thanks for your reply! Yes I used clear blue early detection too and mine look similar to yours! I’ll take a pic for you!
I’m not sure I can trust mine though as I’m almost a week late 🙈 however I think I may have ovulated late so it’s so hard to tell!
Really hope it’s good news for you! From my endless googling, a pink dye pregnancy test is recommended because it’s easier to tell if it’s an evap line!

Hi @Coxy88! Have you got your BFP yet? I’m still late and testing negative- I think that maybe mine were sadly evaporation lines and my period is just very late! So frustrating as I don’t think I’ve ever been late! Hope you have more positive news!

Hey @Bluey20 I decided not to test again. I’ve had multiple miscarriages and the heartache is just too much. I’ve decided to wait and see if my period arrives tomorrow! Thank you for checking in. How are you feeling? Have you tried a FRER? Fingers crossed for you! You’re not out until AF arrives xx

Bluey20 · 19/02/2021 09:50

Hi @Coxy88! I’m so sorry to hear that. That is so tough. I’ve suffered baby loss too and even months later the grief can just hit me! I think that’s a really wise decision and I really hope that you get your positive and things go smoothly! :)
Yes I tried FRER this morning but still negative. I think I must have ovulated late as I had tonsilitis? It’s just I’ve never been late before and I’ve tracked my periods for years!! But these things happen! I’m officially a week late now and from the reading I’ve done, if I was pregnant it should definitely have showed up! And it’s shown up before on the day I missed my period. But yes, there is still a little bit of hope!! I won’t be going for clear blue tests again, that was just so cruel!
Here’s to hoping you get your positive! :) x
