When to try after miscarriage

Hi everyone,

Just looking for other peoples stories.
Found out i was pregnant on Tuesday... then started bleeding quite heavily early Sunday morning. So sadly I have miscarried.

My question is - How long did you wait until you tried again after a miscarriage?

You can start ttc again as soon as you stop bleeding, as that was a very early/chemical miscarriage your cycle will probably return to normal by your next period.

Juno231 · 15/02/2021 17:08

Exactly what Garman said. I'd DTD regularly for a longer span than your regular fertile week though as your cycle may be a bit wonky straight after a CP.

Daffodil21 · 15/02/2021 17:08

You should wait for a negative pregnancy test, and you should test in 2 weeks from now. If it's positive you need to be scanned for retained products, and if it's negative a and you have stopped bleeding then you can try again.

Are you sure you have miscarried? Bleeding doesn't always mean a mc. I'm sorry you're going through this

Horehound · 15/02/2021 17:10

I'm in exactly the same situation op. :(

I'm going to track using opks as soon as bleeding stops (which it almost has). But I did a test this am and it's still showing a faint line so I'm off to get my HCG levels done tomorrow as I was fully expecting it to show nothing by now.

emfl01 · 15/02/2021 17:11

@Daffodil21

I already have a early scan booked for tomorrow as I don't actually know how many weeks I was due to coming off the pill November my periods are still slightly irregular!
But I had the doctors this morning and she said based on bleeding she is quite sure I have due to the amount and clots.
But I will of course go to the scan so they can find out what's gone on inside. I do have some slight hope but I have been bleeding heavily for 2 days now 😓

@Horehound
It sucks doesn't it :(
We was just starting to get excited and I got taken away very quickly

I have the same flicker of hope @emfl01. It's a horrible situation to be in. Mentally emotional

Horehound · 15/02/2021 17:14

Yeh I cried all day when I stated to bleed :( I had started thinking about the baby and said to my son he was going to have a sibling. (He's only 18m so doesn't understand) but I just felt so silly afterwards.
I got pregnant on my first time trying for my son so I think I've set the bar high thinking it would all be easy.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 15/02/2021 17:18

Sorry to hear this.

We were told by consultant that the rate of miscarriage slightly higher in first 3m after miscarriage so we waited 3m. As a result dc1 was born a year to the day of MC.....!

emfl01 · 15/02/2021 17:20

@Horehound

I also cried all day yesterday.. it was awful as we just started to get our head round it and started to get so excited at the thought of it!
I don't have any other kids but I did tell my dog she was going to be a big sister 🙈🤣.

I do have the scan tomorrow but I am fully prepared for the worst situation 😓

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

Ooo okay! I have been told to carry on with my pregnacare vitamins so maybe we will try again in a couple of months 🤞🏻

OP posts:
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 15/02/2021 17:23

I went in and had the scan and a good chat about it all, it helped. Thinking of you Flowers

emfl01 · 15/02/2021 17:24

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

I have made a list of questions to ask at the scan tomorrow, just want it over and done with if I'm honest 😓

Thank you ❤️

I took those few months to look after myself tbh, as a result I was in great shape, inside and out, ahead of pregnancy Smile

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 15/02/2021 17:24

You might be surprised how reassuring it is. I really felt it helped with the closure that came a bit later.

emfl01 · 15/02/2021 17:26

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

I must say I do feel better after speaking with my doctor this morning but let's see what tomorrow brings 🤞🏻❤️

I had three miscarriages one after the other, and it really affected my mental health so I stopped trying for nearly two years. Got my head back together, gave up alcohol and lost weight. Became pregnant straight away and DD is nearly 3. For me personally, I really needed that big break from it.

Fawn68 · 15/02/2021 18:25

So sorry @emfl01 I hope you are doing ok! After my first MC in June we started trying again straight away, then fell again in Oct and I miscarried then too. I was then quite ill and started trying again in Jan and fell pregnant first time trying. I think just when you are mentally ready x

emfl01 · 15/02/2021 18:28

@DontBeShelfish so sorry for all of your losses, life can be so cruel 😓

@Fawn68 I'm doing okay.. just a lot at once as only found out on Tuesday and it's been taken away already. Sorry for your losses ❤️ I think we have both decided to enjoy our summer just the 2 of us and try after then. We are also mid moving house so there's a lot going on in our lives at the moment

OP posts:
DontBeShelfish · 15/02/2021 19:41

@emfl01 They were grim for sure, but without them I wouldn't have ended up with my amazing, sparky little girl. Take care of yourself, get the house move out of the way. The old saying is new house, new baby, so you never know! Thanks

carnations23 · 15/02/2021 20:55

I had an early loss start of September, conceived again some point in October - all going well so far.

Lizbb · 15/02/2021 21:46

@emfl01 sorry to hear of your mc. I mc at11 weeks a few weeks ago. So hard. I havent seen my period but the pregnancy test now says negative. Although the ovulation test still shows a line.
I'm also a bit confused as to when ttc. My epu said I should wait for my first period as some pp and them get confused while some ladies say its best for lining to heal so after a few months. While other women have said they tried straight away and they now have a healthy baby. So hard to know init?
Have you got your period back yet. And are you taking any supplements? I'm taking folic acid and vitamin d atm

Penguinmumma · 16/02/2021 04:29

@emfl01 I just wanted to send a hug while you wait for your scan.
I’ve been through 8 now and it never gets any easier. The best advice I can give you though is to try when your ready. With some of mine I was straight away, some I wasn’t. You can tend to be more fertile after a loss but cycles can end up all over so keep that in mind if your doing opk’s etc.
Make sure you do some self care too. Your body and mind need to process and heal. Taking time out to care for your mental health is just as important as physical health.

Also - LOL at telling your dog she was gonna be a big sister!! I have a DD but didn’t tell her when I fell a couple of months ago as I’m so prone to mc’s. I did however ask my Siamese fighter fish, Dracula, his opinion on having a baby in the house 🙈🙊 oddly he didn’t really respond 🤔

emfl01 · 16/02/2021 08:24

@Lizbb
Sorry for your loss 😓 I think we have decided to wait until we have moved into our new house and get settled before even trying.
I'm still bleeding now so I'm not sure if it's called a period or? I basically have all the usual period symptoms and have been bleeding for 3 days now. Sunday being the heaviest. Ive been advised to carry on taking the folic acid and vitamin D as we want to try in 3/4 months time 🤞🏻

@Penguinmumma
Oh gosh, I can't imagine what you have been through. I have been a wreck the past couple of days but starting to feel a bit more positive about it, my partner has been amazing and can't fault him at all.
My dog is my little fur baby so I got excited she was going to be a big sister!!! 🤣🐶 but I've now told her that it's just not the right time yet so she will have to be patient and wait, I also didn't get a response 🙈🤣

Horehound · 16/02/2021 09:48

Yep you're the same as me op. I am also living house...next week. And the contract is not complete yet and I'm trying to pack up a five bedroom house. I think I am stressedm
...maybe this contributed to the loss :(

Off to epu shortly but I did another test today and it is deffo fainter so I know it's gone.
