First trimester counting question

I've just tested and got my BFP! This is my first, and I'm just so worried (as I imagine we all are) about the prospect of miscarriage. I'm 2 weeks post conception, 4 since first day of last period. I've read online that most miscarriages take place within the first 12 weeks. My question is - is that 12 weeks from ovulation or first day of last period? My partner asked me how far along I was, and I don't know whether this question should be answered regarding ovulation or period date?
