Pregnant with retained products after d&c??

Hi mums/dads/carers.. I think I'm in the right place but not 100%, might better under miscarriage but not sure! My partner and I found out back in December (6 week scan) that our very much wanted pregnancy wasn't developing (pregnancy sac but not even a fetal pole).
The sac wasn't passing naturally so I was given misoprostol to take which was horrendous and didn't work so I ended up having an emergency D&C three weeks ago.
Bleeding stopped pretty much straight away, took the antibiotics and no pain so didn't see any reason we couldn't be intimate again about 10 days later.
Went back to EPU for a check up today, the pregnancy test was positive, the scan showed what they thought was 2mm of retained product and my hcg levels were 407 which they said were very high for someone who was 3 weeks post d&c.
I have to go back on Sunday for another blood test but they said they can't rule out another pregnancy. I don't see how this is possible if there's retained products and surely I wouldn't have ovulated so soon? I know it's a bit all over the place but has anyone else been in a similar situation? Head feels like it might explode! x

Sorry for your loss. It’s horrible. :(

Have you done any tests in between? The retained products can keep your HCG high. That’s what happened with me, had 5 weeks of positive tests after failed medical management then they found retained products.

If you’ve had a negative test in between then they might mean you could have retained products OR a new pregnancy.. x

Hi @Amz6219, thank you very much for our reply and I'm so sorry for your loss.
I haven't unfortunately and in hind sight that might have been a good idea.
I'll see what my levels are saying tomorrow when I go back to the hospital - so hard not knowing what's going on with our own bodies isn't it! Take care x

Hi @1234Rawa1234 sorry you're going through such an awful time. I had retained products after my d&c but pregnancy test was also negative. I went back due to on/off heavy bleeding with clots a couple of weeks after the procedure. I had to have another d&c few weeks after the first. So I guess a pregnancy test could show either way. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the misoprostol too - I took that for second mmc and also had a bad time. I really hope the scan today gives you some answers

Hi @Jeds55, thank you for your message. I'm so sorry to hear about your losses and your experience with misoprostol. Makes what is an already awful time even more horrendous. The levels are dropping so it's not a new pregnancy or not a viable one anyway. They seem to think my body will break down the retained products and I'll pass them naturally so just have to wait and see. Take care x

I had a d and c after one of my miscarriages and had the same issue 3 weeks later. Went for two scans and I was pregnant again they reckon I must've ovulated within 7 days or so of my d and c. It does happen.

I am so sorry for your loss.
