Hi! Sorry if there's already a thread about this (couldn't see one!) but anyone want to chat about TTC whilst breastfeeding? LO is 18 months now and we've started trying this month!

Worked for us, my periods came back when DD2 was 18 months and was pregnant again by the time she was 20 months. Just a warning though, bf while heavily pregnant is HARD! Good luck with it all Smile

Just popping in to say it worked for me too! My youngest has just turned one and I'm still breastfeeding her multiple times a night - I got my first period since having her last month and I'm now 4+3 weeks pregnant. Smile

Lots of luck to you! 🤞🏻

Jumping on too if that's ok. Did you all do anything differently (reducing feeds etc) to get your periods to return or did they just come back on their own? Thanks!

I got pregnant while still breastfeeding my 19 month old but it was extremely exhausting and also gave me a lot of cramps which made me concerned about miscarriage... every time I fed it was like my uterus was contracting. Therefore I chose to wean at 6 weeks. Best decision ever, my DD immediately started sleeping through the night FINALLY.

Not trying to put you off... but it’s hard. Not the TTC but the feeding. I have friends who have continued feeding through pregnancy and now they have the conundrum of either a) weaning a toddler when heavily pregnant and in anticipation of new baby’s arrival, with worries that toddler will therefore become jealous of baby or b) tandem feeding which sounds like a new level of hell on earth Grin I know some people like the idea but even the thought of having a newborn constantly attached to one boob - as they tend to be - and a toddler also asking for milk is tiring.

@purplejungle my periods weren’t coming back so I tried a technique I read about online which worked! Basically you make a conscious effort to increase your calorie intake (by quite a lot, like an extra 3-400 calories a day) for a couple of months and there’s research to suggest that this kick starts your body into ovulating again. I will post the link if I can find it.

@purplejungle I night weaned DD at 18m old and they came back within 2 weeks. Shes now 2 and 2 months and still feeding loads but night weaning has been a godsend and will be even more so when the baby arrives, I cant think of anything worse than feeding 2 of them all night!

ShinyGreenElephant · 26/01/2021 20:30

@rockettrain that's me now! Too late to wean her now (due next month) but my milk supply has dropped loads so she gets frustrated and pulls / pinches which is not pleasant with sore pregnancy boobs! Also think the hormones don't help as I find it quite stressful now and I've always adored feeding her up til the last month or so. Just hoping it gets easier once the babys born... because newborn babies always make things easier 🤣🙈

purplejungle · 26/01/2021 20:31

Thanks both!

My periods came back really early, so that's not a problem but I know some people struggle to conceive whilst bfing. Did it take you all long? LO is mostly night weaned now (apart from when there's teething!) so hoping that will help
