Almost- positive OPK then negatives straight after? (Pics) short surge or didn't ovulate?

The OPKs (pictured) were taken on:

CD22 (fmu, around 10am)
CD22 (early afternoon, like 1ish)
CD22 (around 5pm)

I didn't test before CD22 unfortunately. I did test the day after (CD23) and it was stark negative as well, barely a 2nd line. I normally ovulate between CD11-CD20, so this is late for me.

BUT... I didn't experience ANY ovulation pains at all (which I normally get every month). They are normally quite severe but I didn't even feel a twinge this month. I did have EWCM though.

Does it seem like I had a very short surge, or is it more likely that I haven't ovulated at all?

Also, based on the OPK is it likely that I ovulated ON the day (CD22) or the day after (CD23)?

I'd say you had a short surge.

Iloveoreos · 26/01/2021 14:51

I had a similar thing this month. I tested on cd8 and it seemed positive. Tested 2 3 hrs later and it was fainter and now its really faint. I never ovulate on CD 8 !!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 26/01/2021 14:52

Only temperatures can confirm ovulation, but Id mark CD22 as the OPK peak with a quick fall. Then youd expect ovulation within 48 hrs, so CD 22 or CD23. Cant get any more specific without temps!

Honestly I find these tests very unreliable. I have never once got a positive with them. I now use the clearblue digital advanced OPK's and I also have cheap wilko ones which are good just to confirm. This cycle I had a posisitve (static smily) with the clearblue and also a strong posiitve wilko one yet the one step one (dipped in same urine) was clearly negative.

acaciabluebell · 27/01/2021 11:39

@rosierose10 Whattt that's insane! Tbf they are extremely cheap I guess

Thanks for the responses ladies. I hope it was a short surge as I already have had blood work done based on CD22 as ovulation day!

Btw if these are one step brand they are rubbish. I never got positive with them. Then i switched to wondfu. Tried both at same time. When wondfu showed positive ..onestep still showed negative. Dye quality isnt great in onestep

acaciabluebell · 27/01/2021 13:16

@Iloveoreos Yeah they are, and you're right I have never gotten a proper positive where the test line is darker the control. I've only ever gotten it where the lines are the same darkness basically. And the dye is always so faint! I'll definitely check out wondfo. Thanks

Femometer ones are also good ive heard. So go for that or wondfu .With one step i thought i wasnt ovulating at all and getting stressed. When i started wondfu i realised i was actually ovulating . Used onestep stick on same sample and negative🤣. Sadly it ended in a chemical preg that cyce but atleast I know onestep were messed up and gives me some relief and hope.

They do say don't do the tests until the afternoon as you have some LH in your body in the morning anyway, so could it be that?

Wibblewobble99 · 27/01/2021 17:37

Apparently the best time to use OPKs is between 11am-8pm. They’re not reliable with FMU if it any help x

acaciabluebell · 27/01/2021 19:16

@SEpoppet Really? I thought it was recommended to test in the afternoon because it gives time for the LH to build up? Normally the FMU ones are weak compared to SMU/early afternoon urine.

@Wibblewobble99 Thanks, although I dont think that applies as my FMU opk was quite strong already. I have a feeling that if I had tested the day before if it would have been positive as well

@acaciabluebell I think when you have a surge it doesn't really matter so much when you test- you'll get a positive. However, if you're not having a surge and you test in the morning, that is the time you would get a 'false positive' because there is some in your body. So, best not to use FMU and wait until after 11am.

Iloveoreos · 28/01/2021 20:47

Does this look like a positive opk. Im sure i saw watery cm but all tests after this were very faint. So confused. I had ovulation type pain on and off all day after .

Kona84 · 28/01/2021 20:51

@Iloveoreos not quite positive yet.
The test line needs to be darker than control line

Iloveoreos · 28/01/2021 21:00

@kona84 usually it starts like this then goes darker the next day.mine didnt. Not sure why. Maybe its too early but i had all symptoms of ovulation 😔😔
