Hi there

So, for the first time last month, I noticed I had EWCM after DTD with my DH. This was a few days before ovulation within my fertile window (according to Flo app).

I noticed it again this evening, again, after DTD. I'm about a week away from ovulation and 2 days off my fertile window.

However, I never really notice it other than after we've DTD. Is it normal to only notice it after sex?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question but I got really excited when I noticed it as I know its a good sign when TTC and just want to make sure that it's normal to only notice it after sex.

@KeepSmiling89 hm the only thing I'd say is how do you know it's ewcm after dtd and not just semen?

KeepSmiling89 · 25/01/2021 20:05

@Juno321 that's what I was thinking too, but when I put it between my fingers, it had that stretchy EWCM consistency. I read somewhere that semen isn't as stretchy...I might be wrong though. That's why I'm asking to be perfectly honest...

I was going to say same as @Juno231 - they can appear to be quite similar. In fact I'm only ever confined it's EWCM once it's been about 12 hours since dtd

RealisticSketch · 25/01/2021 20:06

I would notice when going to the toilet and wiping. That was when I would dtd and this was the reason dd is with us now. I think if you're noticing after then it's just ejaculation fluid which is not dissimilar.

Semen can def be stretchy. The main difference I think is that really fertile ewcm is clear whereas semen tends to be a bit cloudier

Thank you@Fifi1086 and @RealisticSketch

I never really tracked my CM before so wasn't sure what to be looking for in the first place. Oh well, will keep going though 🙂

I think the advice is specifically not to check after sex due to two things:

  1. Could be semen.
  2. Secretions produced when ahem, excited, are not the same as CM.

I don’t really track it but definitely notice when wiping during fertile window. Sounds crude but sometimes easier to notice after bowel movement as it squeezes CM further down.

KeepSmiling89 · 26/01/2021 10:08

@Haiyaa thanks! I think I have noticed this before after a bowel movement.

Again, this is still new to me so will stick to tracking ovulation using OPKs in the meantime.

I read once that ewcm floats, semen doesn't.
