Hycosy vs Egg Retrieval

I am about to enter the hell of ivf. All the experts seem to have unhelpful PC statements. To people who have actually been through this horror - what is the Retrieval part like? More or less painful than hycosy?

My specialist doesn't believe in that and does it straight. Obviously I will be taking loads of valium and painkillers but that did nothing to help my hycosy experience
