Hello

I'm in need of a bit of advice so I thought I'd post in here.

I am planning on TTC later this year after I hopefully get married (wedding has already been postponed once due to covid).

I came off the pill over a year ago now and I've started tracking my cycles just to see what's going on. I seem to be ovulating around day 17/18 of my cycle and I've noticed that my LP is around 10/11 days which I understand is quite short.

Having done some research into this area, I have come across the suggestion of taking vitamin B6 to try and extend my LP.

I just have a few questions about this:

  • Should I wait until a bit closer to when I am going to TTC before taking it (hoping to start trying around October) as I've read that it can be harmful to take high doses for extended periods of time.
  • Are there any particular B6 supplements that you'd recommend (including dosage)?
  • Would you recommend taking a B-complex vitamin instead of a pre-natal supplement? I'm worried that I'll be taking too much if I take both.
  • If you were taking B6 when TTC and you managed to get pregnant, did you continue to take it throughout your pregnancy? I'm not sure what is safe to take during pregnancy.

If anyone has any other information or success stories about vitamin B6 helping to extend LP then I'd be very grateful!

Thank you.

@Subla2401
Just to share my story about vitamin B6, I have regular spotting before my period each month. It seemed to start after I came off the pill in Sept 2019. I was worried at first and googled all sorts. After looking through quite a few threads on Mumsnet, I found it’s quite common and as my periods were still regular at 28 days, I stopped worrying so much. I then read that spotting upto 7 days before your period means your LP is short and could mean implantation would be difficult. At this time, we weren’t TTC but I was ‘preparing’ just as you are.
I then read that B6 can extend your LP and reduce spotting. I took 100mg but it didn’t stop the spotting, only reduced it occasionally on some months.
Once I started using OPK, I found I was ovulating late around day 17 and then I read (I read a lot!) that B6 can delay ovulation. I stopped taking it straight away and this month I ovulated bang on day 14. I’m now in the tww waiting to see if my spotting will happen again, or I’m pregnant!

So my advice, if you’re already ovulating around day 17, there’s a chance it could delay ovulation as it did for me. Maybe I took too high dosage? I can’t say either way really.

I am now only taking folic acid and vitamin D as I’m conscious of all the things I’ve read about taking other vitamins like pregnacare, that messes with your cycle and delays ovulation.

Hope that helps in some way. Best of luck ✨✨

Agnus casts worked for me, lengthened LP by 2 days. I have no experience of vitamin b supplements.

Agnus castus sorry

Thank you both for your replies. I think I will avoid the B6 for the time being. I'll also have a look into Agnus Castus.

I guess the other question is, has anyone had a luteal phase of 10/11 days and been able to conceive? Maybe I should just leave my cycle alone and see what happens!
