Anyone TTC with a short luteul phase?

Hi everyone! I'm in my first month TTC #1. I have both a short cycle (21-23 days) and a short LP (7-9 days). Is anyone here currently TTC with a short LP? I thought it would be good to go through it together! I'm 4DPO so expecting AF this weekend unless by the grace of God the BDing worked hahha. I'm 32 btw. Also any inspiring stories of naturally conceiving with short LPs are very welcome here!

@laurini Hey, sorry i dont have any inspirational stories. I am TTC #1. This is my 6th cycle. My cycle length is between 26-28 days. I normally get a peak OPK CD 16 & 17. However im now CD20 and still getting high OPK, no peak yet. From looking back at my cycles, i think i also may have a short LP. X

As you asked for stories, I’ve had two pregnancies with a short luteal phase. I was lucky to get to as long as 9 days! Sometimes it was as short as 6. Both times it only took a few month. Best of luck!

laurini · 19/01/2021 15:51

@JessB89 hey! Good to e-meet you Smile Yes, it looks like you might although it's so confusing isn't it! I've seen on Google that anything under 10 is short but then the NHS website says implantation occurs on day 5 or 6, which means surely an LP over that would be okay..? I know there is conflicting thoughts on the effect a short LP can have on fertility but I'm thinking that to even have a chance of getting pregnant (let alone staying pregnant) I would need implantation to happen super early Confused

@Fab90 This is SO good to hear! Thank you! Fingers crossed my fertilised eggs (if any!) get their skates on hahaha!!!!

@laurini, you too. Its mind blowing, i never thought TTC would be so hard and theres so much i am learning throughout this journey. Thats good the NHS website says that, i tried to do some researching. It would be good to get some recommendations from others who have experienced it. Have you done OPK yet? As you may ovulate earlier with having shorter cycles?

larrythelizard · 19/01/2021 16:08

Yes, I think I'm similar to you @laurini - on cycle 2 and waiting for AF, DH had out of the blue performance issues around ovulation time so not holding out any hope this cycle, just want AF to crack on so we can go again!

This is (hopefully DC2), no issues with luteal phase previously - I started taking some new vitamins in Nov (month before we started TTC) so wonder if they're to blame, have stopped taking them and will just see what happens!

laurini · 19/01/2021 16:11

@JessB89 Yeah, I agree. I have been worried about getting pregnant since I was a teenager but had no idea what a minefield it actually is hah! Yeah, I have been using OPKs. You're right though - before I was TTC, I read that people with 21 day cycles can O as early as CD7 so this month, I tested from CD5. Nothing happened so I thought I could have missed O and it must have happened earlier...but then I got a peak on CD13! Therefore, I'm assuming O happened on CD14 which potentially only gives me 7 DPO!

JessB89 · 19/01/2021 17:01

@laurini. Yes me too. Its crazy isnt it, you never really expect this. My partner thought it would happen first time. Thats good youve been using them as it will give you a good idea of O. Are you using clear blue ones? Maybe start testing once your AF has stopped? I was taking a break from OPK but then i had some spotting on CD 11 & 12 and thought thats strange, it had never happened before. From research i thought maybe it was ovulation spotting so i started to test. Thats how ive picked up these later high fertility. Hoping ill peak tomorrow as i have had 5 days of high now. Like you said through research it can occur day 5 or 6 so you can be fine 🙂

Hey Smile I’m on my 4th cycle of TTC with a 30 day cycle and an 8 day LP. Have been worrying myself about it but was chatting to a pregnant friend the other day and mentioned it, and she said oh I never even knew that was a problem. Turns out she’d had a 7 day LP and she conceived on her second month of trying. Made me feel a bit better!
I know 4 cycles is nothing but I’m feeling very impatient already. Good luck everyone!

kennetrose · 01/02/2021 11:22

My LP is consistently 8 days. I did a fertility MOT for reassurance and the doctor said short LPs weren't a problem. I never understood why until I did some deep diving on the internet. TW I'm going to talk about loss/CPs in the next bit...

Embryos that implant earlier (on or before 10 days) are more likely to have normal chromosomes. Embryos that implant later are much more likely to lead to miscarriage. So short LP may mean longer to a positive pregnancy test but less likely to end in miscarriage. Birth rates between women with short LPs are about the same as those with normal LPs. After implantation HCG turns things around pretty quickly.

Knowing that has offered me some reassurance but I had CD21 blood tests done by my GP and based on those incredibly low results she's referred me to the fertility clinic. I'm really confused as to whether I actually have a problem or not. Like I knew my progesterone would be low 7DPO because it's the day before my period. She said it suggests I didn't ovulate but temps confirm I did.

Anyway, I came here to find success stories with short LP so it's reassuring to see one!

Hi all!
I know this thread has been dormant for a while but it seemed like the place for mat Q!
After coming off the combined pill my cycles have been exactly the length they were before (21/22 days - short I know) but my LP had been particularly short

I was wondering if this was something that lengthen in time after stopping the pill? And if any ladies experienced this, did it short ovulation back or just add on to the length of your cycle?

Thank you for any thoughts. It’s a worrying and stressful time TTC xxx

Sapphire27d · 16/10/2022 10:16

@laurini not sure if you’re still on here but I’m TTC and my cycle seems a lot like yours! How did things go for you ? Very much wishing you can report back a BFP now :)

Wreakingball · 16/10/2022 10:34

Hey @Sapphire27d
I don’t have a success story (yet, hopefully!) but when I came off the POP it took me over a year and an early MC to get my cycles back properly. They were initially 21 days ish with a less than 7 day LP and light periods.
I have now managed to lengthen them out to 26-28 days and 9/10 day luteal phase. I don’t know if it was my body taking a while adjusting but I have stopped doing high intensity exercise, and added more fats and seeds to my diet, and started taking multivitamins, folic acid and omega 3/6/9.
I don’t know if any of that stuff helped or not, and I do wish it was longer but definitely feels better than it was. I now get lots more symptoms such as sore boobs before my periods which I never had before.
Good Luck!

Sapphire27d · 16/10/2022 16:57

Hey @Wreakingball

Thank you for sharing that. Reassuring to know it could be the effect of coming off the pill but frustrating that it’s taking so long to reset!

Ive started taking folic acid and b vits, and those diet changes you mentioned make sense given nutrients needed.

Have you had any advice from a doc as it’s been over a year for you ? Wondering if there’s an official medical line to it as you can read so many different ones on line !

Anyway, so glad your cycle has moved in the right direction and hoping you get good new soon ! Gives me hope :)

Wreakingball · 17/10/2022 09:47

I hope given a bit of time your cycle comes back properly too @Sapphire27d
We are just waiting for a referral to the fertility clinic. My GP has been pretty unhelpful really. She told me that it is impossible to have a luteal phase shorter than 14 days! And that my progesterone is fine but it’s actually low according to clinical guidelines. So I’m hoping the fertility clinic might be better when we finally get an appointment!

Sapphire27d · 17/10/2022 10:22

@Wreakingball best of luck with the fertility expert. Can’t believe a GP said that about your Luteal phase, very worrying to hear for a Dr you rely on!

windsor22 · 17/10/2022 21:49

Hi, I have a short luteal phase too, I have very light bleeding around 8-10 DPO followed by AF. I don't know whether to log this as spotting or as my period starting? My period always starts the day after with no bleed-free days in between.
Whether the discharge counts as any period starting or not makes a big difference to my luteal phase - it would increase it slightly to 10-12 days but still not 14.
Has anyone had any advice about this?
It's only been 6 cycles so far but I'm getting really anxious and disheartened.

pomdownunder1 · 18/10/2022 10:00

Hi @windsor22 @laurini - also in the short luteal phase club and working through what the issue is! 6 month ttc, first baby.

@windsor22 how are you tracking ovulation and when do you ovulate? Did you have 21 day bloods? You will count your first day of period as first day of flow so I've been told, sounds like you're spotting before like me!

Sapphire27d · 18/10/2022 10:37

@windsor22 ive seen on other forums that people experiment with the likes of vitex and maca to try to lengthen LP - but of course I’m wary of anything not prescribed by a Dr…

Additionally I’ve seen forums where a fertility specialist has prescribed progesterone suppositories to women to support the LP - I think consultations with private specialists are in the £100s so may be worth it if you don’t want to wait for NHS!

Carlotta27 · 01/11/2022 18:48

@laurini sorry I’m late to the game. Wondering how you got on TTC as I think I’m in a similar short LP position and getting v anxious!

Hi
I've marked ovulation by CM changes and one sided pain, confirmed a couple of days later by a positive ovulation test (I use clear blue advanced as well as the cheap strips so as not to miss my peak). On cycle 6 now, day 14, had high fertility for a few days now and awaiting my peak. I wasn't expecting to be high so soon - some cycles this has been day 20+, this cycle was day 7 when I got my first flashing smiley face 🤔
Baby dust xx

pomdownunder1 · 02/11/2022 06:41

@windsor22 that's great! are you taking new vitamins or anything this cycle?
