BFP before IVF. HELP

This is a huge ramble so please excuse me if I sound all over the place...

DH and I have been TTC for over a year. I got pregnant in June but it was ectopic (thankfully neither tube had to be removed). Finally went to see fertility consultant who diagnosed my tubes as buggered and suggested IVF. Everything else (ovarian reserve, follicles, sperm count etc) look good, so we were considered good candidates.

Last week I paid £5.5k for IVF and this afternoon I realised my period should have come this morning. Took a test and would consider this a seriously big BFP. I am 13 DPO. I am obviously delighted (and stunned!) but have a concern about it being another ectopic.

With my last ectopic I had very feint lines every day for a week. They were sometimes darker and sometimes feinter, but they never followed a darkening pattern. I will call the EPU to get a scan next week but in the meantime I was hoping for some advice from anyone else who has had an ectopic in the past? Did you ever get a strong line like this? Would a clearblue 'week by week' give me a better indication of a sticky pregnancy?

Lost for words... Any words of wisdom or advice gratefully received!

BFP before IVF. HELP

Hello!

I had an ectopic in October and just got my bfp earlier this month. My tests do seem to get darker (I think I’m hitting the limit on it now) but they did last time. The only way to know is to get a scan or bloods in the meantime.

Good luck I hope this is it for you!! I was so close to paying for ivf too.. will you be able to get your money back?

Glenpatrick · 18/01/2021 18:24

I would contact the ivf clinic and see what they say? they might take you in for the scan and see?

Glenpatrick · 18/01/2021 18:24

Also - congrats!

EmbarrassingMama · 18/01/2021 18:41

@Chica1990 thanks for the response. When did you go for a scan/bloods? I was tempted to call the EPU tomorrow but wondered whether - at 4 weeks - they'd be able to see anything?! No idea on the refund. I would hope so (treatment was due to begin on the 3rd Feb), but you never know!

@glenpatrick thanks, that's a good idea. Given I'm booked in they might be able to see me sooner and it's a separate clinic so it wouldn't require visiting a hospital atm.

@EmbarrassingMama I’m going to epu on Friday when I hit 6 weeks. They said to come in before the end of my 6th week to make sure everything is where it should be. Unfortunately the reality is even if something looks ok it doesn’t mean it stays that way but fingers crossed for us.

Can you start by pushing the treatment date back?

EmbarrassingMama · 18/01/2021 19:13

@Chica1990 have you had bloods done since you found out, or is the 6 week scan going to be your first check up? How many weeks were you when you found out your previous pregnancy was ectopic? I think I was about 5-6 weeks.

Yes, I'm sure I can do that (maybe by three months) and then if it is ecoptic we'll have time to manage it and start again. Such a crazy day. Wishing you all the best for your scan!

OP posts:
Chica1990 · 18/01/2021 20:09

If they don’t see anything I’m sure they’ll do bloods. I haven’t had any bleeding so no real need at the moment.

I thought I was 4 weeks last time but it had managed to sneak 8 weeks without me knowing! Have you had any pain like before (if you did) or any bleeding?

Keep an eye on your tests. Really hoping you have a little miracle! I was TTC since July 2019 so know how much a slog the journey is x

Annannanna · 18/01/2021 21:34

Wow that's a strong line, congratulations! Crazy timing for this to happen! X

EmbarrassingMama · 19/01/2021 08:14

@Annannanna right?! I’m still in shock this morning. Going to call the EPU today at 9 and see if I can get in for bloods. Last time I got same-day results so I’ll hopefully have some indication later, and in 48 hours.

Congratulations. What a lovely surprise!
Something similar happened to a friend and she was just within the window to get a refund so defo contact your IVF clinic to see if you’re entitled to one too.

Best of luck to you and hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy. Flowers

DoctorBambino · 19/01/2021 09:35

Hi @embarrassingMama, for my ectopic my line was really faint and stayed faint for a long time. I also was slightly behind on the weeks progression but I did get to 3+ a few days after I should have.

Did they diagnose your tube issues with a hycosy? Maybe this flushed them through? I've read about that happening!

I hope you can get some bloods done asap! Congratulations!!

EmbarrassingMama · 19/01/2021 09:38

Thanks everyone!

Kings fertility have offered a full refund (DH is thrilled!), and the EPU want to see me but not till Monday when I will be 5 weeks. So an anxious wait for the next 6 days, but I will try to stay positive.

@DoctorBambino the lines for my ectopic were always super light too (although they did fluctuate). This one is definitely a “proper” positive!

Glenpatrick · 19/01/2021 11:18

Could you go to a private lab for bloods before the epu see you on Monday? I’m not sure where you are/if they would be open but just a thought.

TTCAbroad · 19/01/2021 11:43

Wow! Congrats @EmbarrassingMama! I hope everything progresses well for you :)

Olivebranch26 · 19/01/2021 12:32

@EmbarrassingMama congratulations! When I had my ectopic the lines did get slightly darker over the course of a week but still faint and yours is looking strong already. I was worried after my ectopic as they said my tube had slight scarring but I was treated medically so kept my tube. I was so paranoid about it happening again I timed ttc with ovulating on the other side as I felt ovulation pains in my ovary, anywho when I did fall pregnant again an early scan showed a cyst on my left ovary so I did infact get pregnant through my messed up tube. Against all odds I had my miracle baby, and now I'm pregnant with number 2, again with the messed up tube it! it can happen and I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for you. Xx

EmbarrassingMama · 19/01/2021 13:48

@Olivebranch26 that’s such a lovely story and brings me so much comfort.

How funny that you got pregnant that same side both times! Oddly my ectopic was from my right side but the embryo landed and started to implant in my left tube. This month I ovulated from my right side too (I also get ovulation pains!), so the same side as before. Fingers crossed!

@EmbarrassingMama massive congratulations to you 🥰. Brilliant news you can get a refund. What a lovely surprise for you both. Wishing you all the best.

Olivebranch26 · 19/01/2021 15:47

@EmbarrassingMama That is extreamly unlucky that the embryo landing in your left tube, I'm so sorry that happened to you its heartbreaking. I really hope you get your miracle baby too, so far though there seems no reason not to celebrate, your test looks great!
Keep us updated xx

dinksandbinks · 19/01/2021 16:58

@EmbarrassingMama

I'm in a similar position! Ectopic (full rupture) in 2017, one baby via IVF since then and we were about to transfer a frozen embryo after trying for 18 months - then I randomly tested a few weeks ago and turns out I'm pregnant. I'm still waiting to hear if we'll get our money back though.

I ovulated from my left ovary, and the left tube is the one that was removed during the ectopic. So if this sticks, the egg made it all the way over to the right tube. I just hope it got there OK.

Good luck for your scan! I have mine on Friday. Sending positivity!

EmbarrassingMama · 19/01/2021 17:07

Wow! @dinksandbinks that’s even more amazing! Congratulations to you. How many weeks are you and have you managed to get bloods and a scan already? Here’s to hoping everything progresses well for you - that really is incredible news.

dinksandbinks · 19/01/2021 17:25

Thank you! I’m 5w5d going on ovulation date! I’ve had no tests or anything yet, the local EPU will check me out on Friday because of the previous ectopic but I’m not sure if they will do bloods or just a scan.

I’m an older mum, and with PCOS, and with only one tube... it just all seems too miraculous to be true. But I guess even a 1% chance has to happen sometime. Just hope it’s this time!

I’ll keep everything crossed for you, I hope everything goes well for you too!

EmbarrassingMama · 21/01/2021 23:38

@dinksandbinks good luck for your scan tomorrow! Hope you see a lovely yolk!

I took a clearblue digital yesterday (4w 2d) and got this, so I’m trying to be optimistic that my levels are better than they were with the ectopic! 🙏🏼

That’s awesome @EmbarrassingMama!! Definitely looks like it’s going in the right direction this time!!

I’ve just had my scan and it’s all good, heartbeat visible too! It’s honestly a miracle, I can’t believe how tiny the odds were and it still happened!

Twinmammma · 22/01/2021 10:33

Hi @EmbarrassingMama no ectopic here but I had paid about the same for ivf then got my strong bfp (twins). Are you in London? If so I highly recommend the Path Lab for a private blood test (they often do same day results), and also ultrasound direct for a private scan. I only scanned your thread so apologies if you don’t want to do this!
