Positive pregnancy test 4.5 weeks after miscarriage

Hi ladies,

Have any of you experienced positive pregnancy tests after miscarriage- and was it a false alarm or were you pregnant?
I had a miscarriage early December at 5 weeks. My husband and I ended up doing the deed on the day of my peak fertility (definitely thought we were way before it, but the OPK said otherwise). I decided I should take a test around when AF was due, but the result came back very negative on December 31st. I had a some nausea on January 2nd and tested again, and got a faint positive! Today the test was definitely positive, the line was a lot darker.
My doctor said it could be left over HCG from my miscarriage, but I have hard time believing that since I had a negative test, and now ones with lines getting darker. Will do blood work to confirm, but they seem to be leaning towards me not being pregnant. But my symptoms and test are still leaving me hopeful. Hmm

Yes - I had a miscarriage in early December, and am pregnant again now (4 weeks). I'm not holding out a huge amount of hope for it sticking, but I'm definitely pregnant! Fingers crossed you are too and that it is a healthy and happy pregnancy 😊

Sorry I don't have any experience but I'd think if it was negative then positive it's a new pregnancy? Fingers crossed for you!!! X

I was told to use protection until after my first period. If you haven't had a period yet it could be retained tissue or could be pregnant. Speak to your dr.

@Spottybluepyjamas congrats on your pregnancy! Maybe it’ll be a sticky bean! I did read that pregnancy after miscarriage tends to have a higher rate of success 🤞

@Ebhc that’s what I was thinking. And the lines on the now positive tests are becoming stronger. I felt discouraged when my doctor said it could just be residual hcg, maybe they’re trying to not get my hopes up.

Did you have bloods done when you had the miscarriage? I had a miscarriage at 6.5 weeks but it was threatened before it happened so I'd had hcg levels blood tested. I then had to have a scan to confirm everything had passed naturally. I conceived about 2 weeks later, my DD is now 2 and a half, the Dr I saw after the scan said there was no need to wait or avoid anything and sometimes you can be more fertile straight after. With a negative then a positive I have my fingers crossed for a sticky bean for you Smile

@Miarara I did have blood work done after and an ultrasound. I passed everything on my own since it was so early and my HCG had gone down to 3 (below 5 is not pregnant). You made me feel so much better, your situation sounds similar to mine!

@Sarah7654 that’s what happened with me following a mc. I conceived twins straight after it then lost a twin. Was too early to tell there were two of them so we didn’t know there was still a baby in there. She’s now 8.
