Hi
TTC my 4th child age 40, but I’m worried I’m not ovulating. Had a normal period in Nov (4days spotting 2 days bleeding) but in Dec only had 3 days spotting and 1 very light day of bleeding. Also did OPK tests around ovulation and although it could darker didn’t get dark enough to be positive ( although I only tested once per day)

Only been trying Oct, Nov and Dec but with first babies got pregnant on month 1 or 2

Any thoughts? I guess best thing would be to temp chart...

Hi, I am in the same position, TTC, 40 in 6 weeks. We have been trying since middle of last year. I have 3 daughters from a previous marriage but my husband has no children. I got my BFP in October 2021, sadly MC at 8 weeks. My cycles were around 30 days before MC, just had 1st proper period since MC and cycle was 28 days. I don’t have much advise to give, just felt in the same position and be nice to chat. I have started to take Procieve, which I have seen really positive reviews about. Also folic acid, vitamin D, a baby aspirin (apparently helps prevent MC) and Co-Enzyme Q10, which I have read a lot improves egg quality. Also have been eating healthy, cut all alcohol and trying to achieve 10000 steps a day. I’m basically trying anything and everything I can. I know I was ovulating because I got pregnant but worried about egg quality after MC and terrified I’ll never actually get pregnant again or if I do I’ll MC again.
Have you been to GP for any tests? I had a blood test for early menopause, which came back negative, also had a private internal scan which confirmed everything still looks good to go, no cysts or growths on ovaries. Maybe worth getting checked out. At least by GP if nothing else. I have also read a lot about a drug called clomid that can make the ovaries to release eggs. I haven’t used it myself yet but if I don’t get pregnant again within a couple of months I’ll definitely speak to my GP about it. I have also read a lot that at our age if you haven’t conceived within 6 months you should go to GP for advise. I’ve read many posts on here of women having successful pregnancies in their 40 but I believe there is a bit of luck involved, fertility is different for everyone. Anyway I hope I have given you some helpful advise and if nothing else nice to speak to someone in the same position. 🤞🏻 For our 🌈 babies soon x

I think SarahMayo is right that it’s really helpful and positive to have your body in a brilliant place nutritionally , I’m pregnant and 43 and discovered later a nutritionalist who has videos on you tube called Nourish by Melanie and i think she also has some on optimum health conceiving, preventing miscarriage etc. I think it was no coincidence that I had been eating unusually well all summer as conceived from one try when had struggled for several years each time previously as have PCOS . It seems definitely helpful to be sure no hidden nutrient deficiencies as these are so common now I think with the way food is grown (depleted soil nutrients etc)

Hi, I will take a look at that, thank you. Congratulations on your pregnancy 🥳. I wish you all the best 😊

Sarahmayo · 21/02/2022 01:12

How long did it take you to conceive, if you don’t mind me asking 😊

GestationalDiabetes · 21/02/2022 01:25

We were actually not trying to and I’d even thought it was a non fertile time of the month so it happened first time . But i am conscious for most people it will take much longer and with higher risk of miscarriage so it does seem good to do everything one can and I can’t remember if I remember this right from those videos but even avoiding coffee for a bit might help . Worth checking

Well big congratulations and thank you for the advise. I did cut out caffeine with my pregnancy in October but there must have been other underlying issues. Thank you for the advise and really happy for you, also always great to hear that it is possible in your 40s Smile

Following. I always have to wee on multiple OPKs a day around ovulation to catch a positive, so you may have just missed it. If you’re having regular periods (even if they’re lighter than usual), that suggests you’re ovulating.

Do you temp? Easiest way to confirm ovulation without internal scans.

I turned 40 in august and we started trying in November: pregnant first try but ended in a chemical. Nothing since. Have introduced ubiquinol, selenium, folate, omega-3, oil of evening primrose and a multi vit, given up alcohol, now working on giving up caffeine and crisps. Have stuck DP on multi vits and he’s also quit drinking to funk up his spunk. We’ll see.

Hi Stuntbubbles, nice to hear from someone else in same position. I have never been able to get the hand of OPKs, have tried a few times but always negative. We have just being DTD everyday trying not to take any chances to miss ovulation.
I am taking similar supplements to you, hoping to help the next one to be more successful.
I am due to ovulate this week, had some spotting and am feeling really sick yesterday and today, not my usual symptoms but maybe my body is still trying to recover from MC, I'm not sure but feeling pretty unwell today.
Best of luck for your BFP soon Smile
