Hello, this is my first month trying to conceive and just wanted some advice.
I have long ish cycles around 34/35 days and period is usually 6 days long. I have ordered some ovulation sticks to use & me and my partner have started taking some vitamins . I just don’t really know what to expect. I’m due to come off my period today/tomorrow so will start using the ovulation tests in about 10 days? Maybe sooner I’m not sure??

Just wanted to know how quick it happens for people? Any tips I should know and when’s best time to test etc?

Thank you so much Smile

Hi, is you have a 34/35 day cycle you should ovulate around day 20/21. I would start from day 15, so 1 a day until the second line starts to get stronger and then ramp it up and do two a day as you can miss your peak. I usually do it with the second wee of the day (around 8/9) and around 4pm and then When I see the peak I continue doing a couple just to make sure the strength is decreasing. I think different tests need different concentration levels of wee so do read up on the test requirements. Hope that’s useful

BettyRem · 01/01/2021 19:02

Hey, this is our 1st month too!

I was under the impression ovulation was 14days before your period? I’m new to this too so maybe someone else can help you more.
Can I ask which vitamins you are taking? I only have folic acid but have seem vitD is also good to take

JB14C · 01/01/2021 19:07

Yes, okay I will try from then. I’m glad you e said that as I would have panicked if the lines wouldn’t have come up. I’m nervous about everything incase my body don’t work. Yes ovulation sticks said not to use first wee??

14 days is for the average 28 days cycle but even on a 28 day cycle women have been known to ovulate at day 10 etc. That’s bcos the human body isn’t that simple! There are ovulation calculators that you can google and put your cycle days in and tells you when you might ovulate.

Since it is your first time ttc I would recommend doing a test everyday until you get your peak the first cycle. This will then give you an idea of how your body works and you have a better understanding for next cycles. Also there’s no chance of missing the peak.

Daffodil21 · 01/01/2021 19:09

If you're using the clear blue ones there's a table in the instructions which tells you what day to start testing from depending on the length of your cycle. I'd also recommend downloading an app like Flo to track your cycles as it may be helpful if it doesn't happen straight away. Just be aware that it takes a bit of time to 'learn' you so you can't necessarily rely on the app alone for predicting ovulation, but you can input data such as positive OPKs etc

Also if you're using clear blue OPKs and you run out of sticks mid cycle, keep using the holder you started with from the old pack. Good luck!

JB14C · 01/01/2021 19:09

@BettyRem Yay, it’s exciting but scary at the same time. I’m worried incase something don’t work, but I assume that’s normal!! Grin I am using the seven seas one which is folic and vit d. My partner is taking wellman conception ones x

Yeah, I made the mistake of thinking that for a few months, I would only test days 12-17 but bcos my cycle is 31/32 days my peak only comes after and I missed it every time. I had some fertility checks and that was picked up on the scan- that I didn’t ovulate until day 19/20. But like I said for the first cycle just test everyday until you hit your peak- it’s a lot but you won’t have to do it every cycle.

Yeah I think the first wee of the day is too concentrated for the test to pick up on the relevant hormones.

BettyRem · 01/01/2021 19:13

@JB14C yep feeling exactly the same 😁
I had no idea there was so much to learn about getting pregnant! I have been lurking on here for a while trying to get tips, fingers crossed it doesn’t take too long 🤞🏼
Thanks for the vitamin info will have a look into it

JB14C · 01/01/2021 19:13

@Daffodil21 hello, thank you. I’m using the easy @ homes ones. I just ordered them off amazon. I use Flo but if I’m honest, I’m really terrible at logging my periods. But I’ve been doing the last couple of months so I know where I am. But now I will definitely be logging it. Thank you x

@BettyRem I think I have pretty normal cycles. I’m a bit overweight so I need to work on that which I am going to do. I don’t smoke or drink so thats ok I’m still just nervous. 😂 maybe I’m a weirdo. I hope all goes well for you! You will have to let me know when you catch Smile

Daffodil21 · 01/01/2021 19:16

@JB14C I think you have to go into settings and 'add parameters' or something for the OPK stuff on it. If you're using ovulation strips it might be worth looking at fertility friend to help interpret them (I've never used it as I always used CB ones, but I've seen kits about it on here)

JB14C · 01/01/2021 19:18

@Greenbks ah okay, I will try and test as much as possible and try and do the deed every other day of that fertile window? I’m using this month as a bit of a practice month so I can figure out a bit more about my body. Smile

OP posts:
JB14C · 01/01/2021 19:20

@Daffodil21 ah okay, I will have a look now to see, it does predict when it thinks I should ovulate but who knows if that’s accurate! I think I will test as much as I can running up to it and see how I go! Thank you Grin

OP posts:
Greenbks · 01/01/2021 19:20

Yep every other day is recommended. Good luck!

JB14C · 01/01/2021 19:22

@Greenbks fantastic! Thank you so much, got my fingers and toes crossed. I have wanted this for so long and now my partner is on board I’m so pleased!! Xx

OP posts:
BettyRem · 01/01/2021 19:24

@JB14C that must make me a weirdo too 😂
Yes keep us updated on how you get on too it’s so exciting following other people’s stories
I have a 26 day cycle and pretty sure I’ll be ovulating around mon next week. We’re just going to try without ovulation sticks for a few months and see how we get on. Just trying not to get too obsessed by everything and enjoy the excitement 🤪

Daffodil21 · 01/01/2021 19:27

@JB14C I've been logging my cycles on it for 2 years and it rarely predicts ovulation right for me. Maybe there are better apps out there 😂 but I don't use it for predicting ovulation, just for logging cycles as they're slightly longer like yours and do vary a bit

JB14C · 01/01/2021 19:28

@BettyRem haha! Same, that’s what I said I was like I don’t want to get too obsessed but here I am frantically ordering pee sticks & vitamins on Amazon and Googling best foods to eat Wink yes I agree enjoy it! Grin it’s exciting!!

OP posts:
JB14C · 01/01/2021 19:32

@Daffodil21 yeah, I’ve read that’s nothing is great at predicting really as everyone is different but definitely good for keeping an eye on symptoms and tracking dates.

Some of my cycles have been a bit delayed in the past but I’m putting that down to stress. Who knows! Smile

BettyRem · 10/01/2021 14:58

Hey everyone how are we all getting on? Having a good start to the new year?
Anyone using OPK's or testing soon? Xx

JB14C · 10/01/2021 18:30

Hey @BettyRem happy new year! Yes I started using the ovulation sticks about cd10 just to get a feel for my cycle. I’m on cd15 now and I’m slowly getting darker. I’m predicting my ovulation about cd19 but haven’t got a clue, how are you doing??? Grin xxx

@JB14C which ovulation sticks do you use or are they all the same? I've no idea about any of this 😅
and is that an app you use? Do you have to use them at a certain time each day ?
I'm on cd19 and my app estimated ovulation cd13 - I haven't used any ovulation sticks yet I'm just tracking periods and ewcm for now but will probably start tracking properly in the next few months
How long are your cycles? In due af on the 19th 🤞🏼
