Short periods post miscarriage-advice needed please

Hi All, 😉 Merry Christmas everyone!
I had a MMC at beginning August at 12 weeks and had an ERPC. We have been TTC since then but no luck so far - 4 cycles of trying with tracking ovulation with clearblue fertility monitor.
I am finding my period seems to be a lot shorter post having the MC. I was hoping for a BFP this month but my period started on the 22nd December and only lasted 1.5 days-this is the shortest so far!
Has anyone else experienced this? Would love to hear other people’s experiences and any advice people have please. I am anxious that something is wrong, and I just turned 38 so conscious time is not on my side... thank you

Sorry for your loss. I was told it can take about 6 months to regulate again.

My cycle didn’t return for 18 weeks, the. had a 15 day cycle bled for 3 days with further spotting and then a 22 day cycle with bleeding for 7 days. My normal cycle is 25 days.

Good luck hun x

KEG01 · 25/12/2020 20:01

Thank you... it is so frustrating isn’t it! Especially when they say that you are more fertile in the 6 months post the miscarriage. So it feels like the clock is ticking to get in that 6 months! My cycles have gone back to the usual 27/28 days. It is just my period itself that is much shorter. I had 1 proper day of bleeding this time and second half day of light bleeding. Just can’t shift feeling that something is a bit ‘off’...

I’m afraid I don’t have any advice - but I’m having a similar experience. I had an MMC end September and my periods have been up the spout since and I’ve similarly been freaking out about the ‘6 month window’. Just wanted you to know you’re not alone, maybe it’s a post-miscarriage thing. I’ve been fobbed off by my GP but at going to have some private fertility tests done for reassurance, in case that’s an option for you.

larrythelizard · 25/12/2020 22:01

Same as @TTCROYGBIV for me, bled for 12 weeks or so and took a while for cycle to return to normal.

I also had to live with my in laws for a bit which is not conducive to ttc! The thing about being more fertile after also really freaked me out - I thought if it didn't happen then it would never happen

Conceived DC1 4th cycle after moving out of in-laws and got back to proper ttc-ing!

KEG01 · 25/12/2020 22:54

Thank you for the note. So sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing.
I am thinking of going to see a private gynae too to get some advice. Have you been advised at all on type of tests? All the best for your journey! 🤞

Thank you for sharing 😉 I have been told the stress and anxiety of trying to get pregnant doesn’t help... I can imagine living with in laws wasn’t conducive to ttc 😬
People say relax and see what happens...easier said than done though! Especially when I feel like I am racing against a clock with my age and this 6 month ‘more fertile’ window

I am not back to "normal" but I think it,s my age . (40,s) No protection for over a year and mc over a year ago. Don,t think I will get pregnant now.

leftitlate37 · 26/12/2020 17:33

sorry to hear about your miscarriage @KEG01 :( how have u been doing? similar-ish boat to you, nearly 38 and had a MMC couple months ago at just over 11 weeks - was awful, could never have anticipated the impact it would have on me. defo hear you on feeling like racing against the clock and supposedly being more fertile for a few months post!
not finding the same with short periods, but ive never had cramps before a period before and had about 5 days of cramps before my period each time since MMC. as thats the first thing noticed when i was pregnant it's proper got my hopes up each time, only to be let down when AF showed up!
good luck if you go to someone private for advice; hope you can get some asnwers and reassurance! and good luck TTC :)

KEG01 · 26/12/2020 18:59

@leftitlate37 sorry to hear about your loss Sad I hear you about having different symptoms with AF too! I am getting really sore boobs and nausea about 4/5 days leading up to AF. Never used to have that before so automatically been thinking it means I might’ve pregnant and then AF arrives... Hmm no clue what’s going on. Let’s hope 2021 is a positive year in many ways Wink
Good luck for TTC for you too!

KEG01 · 26/12/2020 20:57

Ha! Isn’t it just so frustrating Grin
As you say, 2021 has to be better than 2020! Bring it on! X

Hey @KEG01, I'm so sorry for your loss 😥 this journey sucks.

I just want to pop up and say that I am in the exact same boat and I am currently waiting on a call back from my GP. MMC July 2020 and only had 2 flow days each "period" since with spotting for a few days after. I had a chemical at beginning of December, which I can only think is related to thin lining hence the short periods, but who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ The last two periods (this one started circa 5 days early on Friday right in the middle of some "quality time" with DH 🙄) have only been one full day of flow followed by spotting. I've just turned 35 and paranoid something is off, I feel it in my gut. We were referred to the Fertility clinic before Christmas as we have technically had three losses (our first was a TFMR at 14+5 in November 2019). But I can't shake the feeling there is something more and I need to speak to someone sooner than the fertility clinic can get us in. I will report back what they say if that's helpful?

Did you get anywhere with your private tests? I appreciate it's only been a month since your original post xxx

KEG01 · 01/02/2021 14:46

Hi @Wils85, thank you for your reply. I would definitely be interested in hearing what your GP has to say. Please do keep me posted.

On my side my short periods have continued...I went to see a private gynae 2 weeks ago. He only did a scan at that point and said that everything looked okay... he said that he thinks it might be down to stress and I might not be ovulating because of stress, when you don’t ovulate apparently your periods are short in length too.
So he had said I need to go and try destress and get some better sleep as I have had insomnia since the miscarriage. If no pregnancy in next 3-4 months then go back to him. So let’s see what the next few months have to bring...

Wils85 · 01/02/2021 14:54

Hey @KEG01 not a problem. I will let you know.

I did wonder about stress, but then I've been getting positive OPKs and then we had the chemical in December. Destressing us easier said than done at the moment though isn't it?

Keeping all my appendages crossed for you. I'll let you know what the GP says x

Wils85 · 01/02/2021 15:29

Hi @KEG01 I'm not much further forward tbh. She told me to stay calm and to wait for the clinic as they will do investigations. She said the fact I'm getting positive OPKs is a good sign as, subject to the tests being accurate, I'm ovulating, I've got PG using them so I'm sure they are! It may be a hormone imbalance and I just need to have faith in the fact there are so many ways that we can be helped to have a baby. So I'm back to waiting. I feel a bit reassured, but not massively...

KEG01 · 01/02/2021 16:13

Hi @Wils85, thanks for the update. Glad to hear you feeling reassured. Sounds like it was a good conversation. Do you know when your appointment with the fertility clinic will be?
I also get positives on my OPK’s each month-my doctor said that these can tell you that the LH surge has happened, but not that you actually ovulated. They can’t predict that the egg release actually happened. When he scanned me he said he would check to see if I ovulated as he can see it on a scan...he said he didn’t think I ovulated this last month, even though I got peak readings on my clearblue fertility monitor! I didn’t know that was the case...just thought if they said I was getting a peak I would be ovulating but interesting to know it doesn’t ensure ovulation...

Wils85 · 01/02/2021 16:53

@KEG01 when I rang them last Monday they said we were 6 weeks into the 12 week waiting list so half way there. I suppose it gives me another month to collect data, as it were 🙄

That's just annoying because I thought what your doc said was the case, but then i read it wasn't and the GP said what she said you would t get a surge if you didn't ovulate... Oh who the heck knows, damned if I do at the moment 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈 just got to wait for answers from the clinic now and try and stay calm. Hopefully we will both have some positive news soon enough xxx
