Can condoms fail without you knowing?

My DH and I want to start TTC after my next period which was due today. I had the coil taken out in September and then waited for my cycle to return to normal which took a month and then I have been tracking my ovulation and cycles with this being my third using the clear blue fertility monitor. My first cycle was 27 days, second cycle 24 days and my third cycle was predicted to be 26 with today being my AF due. I forgot to test for ovulation as I've had a busy month but based on the two tests I did do and got high fertility reading (flashing smiley face) and my CM I think I ovulated around day 12-13 which would put my period starting today. Husband and I DTD on that weekend of ovulation but using a condom. AF hasn't arrived yet and I don't have the usual cramps that I get before it is due. I've been feeling off all last week and bloated and sick which I don't usually get. I took a pregnancy test on Monday and it came back negative which you would probably expect as that's only 8ish dpo. I don't remember the condom splitting or anything but has anyone ever had a condom fail and theyve not known?

Never not known but I’m sure some people have. It sounds like your cycles haven’t settled down into a regular pattern yet.

Generally if you are unwell enough to have symptoms then you have enough hcg to have a positive test.

@FestiveChristmasLights thanks for your quick reply! I think I'm just worrying myself over nothing as I didn't think symptoms would appear that quickly after ov anyway! A positive would be amazing as we are about to start TTC anyway but my concern would be I've been drinking alcohol!

When I was waiting to have a coil fitted after my second child (there was some delay for reasons I forget now) they tried to make me use the Pill on the grounds that "condoms are only about 50% effective if not used under laboratory conditions". I can't actually believe that, but they seemed very sure indeed that condoms were not safe enough to rely on.

In any case, if you've had sex and have symptoms, pregnancy is always possible.
