Chemical - test getting stronger after bleeding

I have had a chemical pregnancy. Positive test showed later than previous pregnancies (12dpo instead of 9) and was extremely faint (much more so than in my other two pregnancies at the same stage), so I was very suspicious. Frers didn't get any darker over a period of 4 days, in fact they got lighter. Internet cheapie tests and digitals were negative.

AF arrived yesterday morning and has been painful and fairly heavy, just like a normal period. Therefore I had no doubt it was a chemical.

However, I just randomly POAS (cheapie) and it popped up instantly. There was zero line on there at all the day before my period.

Is it possible the pregnancy hormones are just increasing even though it's not a successful pregnancy? How can that be happening when I'm on my period?

I am sure it's not implantation bleeding. It's a proper AF and has lasted heavily over the last 36 hours. Lightening up a bit now as usual. I didn't have any bleeding with my successful pregnancy and just a tiny trace when wiping for implantation with my miscarriage.

I'm so confused! What's happening?

This is the frers I did before my period turned up and shows the line getting fainter, hence why I'm sure it's a chemical.

Hi @treesall I don't have any advice I'm afraid but I didn't want to read and run. I'm sorry this is happening, must be very confusing.

Personally I don't think those frers look noticeably lighter, more like the same.

treesall · 21/12/2020 22:51

Thank you @Toastedsesame. They did look like they were getting lighter in real life but I can see it's not so clear in the photo.

I have no idea what to think now. Is there even a teeny chance I could actually still be pregnant? I guess I'll have to try a test with fmu tomorrow and see what that says.

I've had a lot of wine in the last 48 hours 😬

Hi, I dont think the frer tests look lighter either. But with such a big bleed like a full blown period I would recommend speaking to your GP. I hope you get a clear answer soon! Xx

Don’t want to scare you but increasing HCG levels accompanied by bleeding can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. You should contact your local EPU as soon as possible.

Bouncytree · 21/12/2020 23:31

Hi @treesall I’m so sorry this is happening you. The bleeding does sound significant. Though having said that until you see a clear negative it’s difficult to feel certain.

I would definitely contact your GP for advice.

I think the fact they they are different tests makes it difficult to compare the strength of the lines as they may have different sensitivities. But even so it is hard to know what’s going on and I know that’s really difficult. Like so much of TTC it’s a wait and see when all you really want is an answer.

I hope your doing ok

kirinm · 21/12/2020 23:35

I agree that you should speak to your GP for a referral to EPU to rule out an ectopic. Good luck OP.

I did two more tests half an hour later and they are totally negative...but they are cheapies and therefore I guess maybe wouldn't pick anything up on dilute pee. Or perhaps the first test was just a fluke line for no reason.

I'll do a frer in the morning and see what it says so will be able to compare lines then. Cheapies were totally negative before my period arrived @Bouncytree

I didn't know that it could be a sign of ectopic, thank you for the advice @BabyGirlNumber2 and also @kirinm

Gosh I'm so confused!!

Totally negative with fmu...last night must have been a faulty test.
