My husband had a sperm test last week as we have been trying to conceive for 12 months now. It has come back negative and I am really upset. He had a vasectomy reversal 5 years ago and within 5 months got pregnant with my son. I suppose I presumed there would be no problems trying to conceive again. I think ICSI has been mentioned to us but this will cost a fortune and not sure I can go through it all. We have an apointment next week to see the GP so hopefully we will know a bit more of what a our options are

I dont know what to say except I feel for you both.
Hopefully the GP will tell you all about your options.

Thank you. I think I feel worse because I never thought for one minute that anything would be wrong. Perhaps me being a bit naive. I'm 25 and my hubby is 38 and to think I will never have anymore children is breaking my heart

I'm really sorry

But why, if you don't mind me asking, did your husband have a vasectomy at the age of 33?

bogie · 23/10/2007 16:54

hope you get an option thats sutiable for you

Kewcumber · 23/10/2007 16:55

would you qualify for ICSI uner NHS rules - I know they vary by region.

sidey, my dh was the same for a while, we did everything to get the sperm count up, cold baths, selenium vitamins, no drinking it did work but in some ways their sperm production is more erratic than all our bits and bobs, paid an extra £1000 for icsi on top of ivf. if you are funded im sure it would include this. can have low sperm count one week and normal the next.good luck and do try everything they suggest.

Sidey have you tried all the hifi suggested it made a real difference for my dh. He had a test at the begining of july motility was 32% really low we were having ivf they said we would have icsi. He really went for it for the next 6 weeks gave up smoking(he was only smoking 5 a day) started taking selinium and 30mg zinc and eating a lot better within 6 weeks it went up to 75%!!!
