Excited about TTC after Christmas

I just want to share my excitement because I can't tell any of my friends but earlier this year my DH and I decided we would start thinking about TTC from early next year. My husband's proviso was that he wanted one more carefree Christmas and to increase our family by an additional dog in the hope that when we have a baby our first dog won't be jealous! So we got our second dog a while ago and we are about to have our carefree Christmas and we have decided that as my next period starts on Christmas eve after that is over we will no longer use condoms and will just see what happens for a few months! So potentially we could have a pregnancy dated from 24 Dec if all works first time! I have been taking folic acid and vitamin D for 3 months since coming off hormonal contraception and DH has DH taking fertility vitamins too.
I can't tell any friends as most of them are work colleagues and it may raise a few eyebrows. I'm relatively junior and some may say it is career suicide as most women in my company wait until they're at the top of the career ladder and have kids after 10+ years of being in the job! (Think graduate scheme up the ranks type job). But after this year we have realised that it is silly to live to work and both DH and I were suffering from serious burn out and if we want to have a baby early on in our careers then why can't we! We will be 65+ before we retire so have at least another 40 years working...who needs to get to the top straight away?! We own a house, have good stable jobs and both feel ready!

Anyway, anyone else going to start TTC after Christmas?

We are! We "started" this month but AF arrived today, I also just knew I wasn't pregnant. We got pregnant a few years back however it was a different and difficult situation. I'm just so excited!

Amyc94 · 20/12/2020 16:59

Hey @TTCnum1 👋🏼 you are in a very similar position to me and by OH.

We've been together for 11 years, own a home and have a dog 🐶

He has just got to the dream stage in his career and I work for myself so starting a family was always scary for us but something I wanted so bad. This year has made us realise that working so hard isn't everything and there is so much more to life and I wouldn't want anything more than to lead this life of ours with a baby son or daughter too!

So we started trying this month.

Good luck for after Christmas, I have everything crossed for you!

Hi @Amijustagrump and @Amyc94 great to have you both on board! It's such an exciting time! I've been a lurker on MN for a few months reading the conception boards! I've tried to tell myself I'll be cool and calm but I know as soon as AF arrives on Thursday I'll be counting down until it's over and then the dreaded TWW!

Its our 7 year anniversary today so I've been drinking wine and just waiting until the end of AF so we can go for it! I bought DP some zinc tablets today and have put them out to remind him Envy

Amijustagrump · 20/12/2020 20:34

Grin not Envy

Amijustagrump · 20/12/2020 20:40

We also sound I'm similar situations! I'm 23 so haven't been working that long since uni (but secondary teacher so secure job!) And DP is 26 but already at the near top of his career so why wait any longer. We were suppose to marry this year too but covid had different plans

purplepoppet92 · 20/12/2020 20:46

Hi all!
I've too are going to start trying in the new year. We actually started trying after my cycle end of September and got pregnant first month! Went for an early provate scan at 9 weeks and discovered that we had a missed miscarriage, so I had to have medical management a few weeks ago. Was supposed to be my 12 week scan tomorrow

33Carr · 20/12/2020 21:19

Hi all! I'm in a very similar situation to @purplepoppet92 Sorry to hear about your loss 💐
My AF is due on the 28th and then we are continue on our TTC journey after some months out! Hoping we all have a great start to 2021 after this shit show of a year 🙈😂

Gabby82 · 20/12/2020 21:32

Ah, this was me this time last year and I'm currently in bed feeding my 6 week old. It's such an exciting journey so enjoy it all. X

TTCnum1 · 21/12/2020 07:50

@purplepoppet92 I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. This must be a really difficult time for you. Sending you best wishes Flowers

@Amijustagrump we do sound similar! I'm 25 and my husband is 33 been married a year. I also have my husband on a mix of Zinc and Vitamin C tablets (that was all Boots had so had to get the combo) as well as vitamin D! I've also been taking the zinc and vitamin C as well as the Vit D and Folic acid combo so we will see!

@33Carr thanks for joining! Hope you're okay and sending best wishes to you too! Flowers

@Gabby82 ah that's amazing! So it didn't take you long to conceive? Any tips haha?

How's everyone getting on?

purplepoppet92 · 11/01/2021 11:09

Just finished my period today.
Have ovulation strips and thermometer at the ready!!

33Carr · 11/01/2021 11:11

@purplepoppet92 Best of luck! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

purplepoppet92 · 11/01/2021 12:00

@33Carr you too!! When are you due to try?

33Carr · 11/01/2021 12:14

@purplepoppet92 According to my app I'm due to ovulate today. Got a positive OPK last night so could be Tuesday but getting on it regardless! How are you feeling about moving forward with your TTC journey? I forgot how much it consumes me haha!

TTCnum1 · 11/01/2021 12:46

I'm 4 DPO today and symptom spotting like mad! My left boob is incredibly painful to touch and feels like I've been punched but I know 4dpo is way too early to have this kind of symptom so it's probably from the dog jumping up at me! Hows everyone else?

purplepoppet92 · 11/01/2021 14:27

@33Carr I'm okay thanks - last time we got pregnant on the first month so trying to remind myself that it's not likely to happen like that this time around! It is a little sad that I should be 15 weeks, but never mind!
What about you? Am I right in thinking you've had previous losses?

33Carr · 11/01/2021 15:26

@purplepoppet92 You never know! Yeah I had a MMC in March last year. We carried on trying but then took some time out as I wasn't in the right head space! Feel much more positive about everything these days! Don't know how long it will last for though 😂

33Carr · 11/01/2021 15:27

@TTCnum1 I can relate with jumpy dogs! Ours is nearly 10 months and is finally starting to calm down... slightly!!
