Hi all,

So I’m feeling super lucky because I only came off the pill on 20th October. First day of last period was 22nd October. Was late coming on again so took 2 tests a day few days apart, 1 was 2 weeks ago the other about 10 days. They were both negative even though I was late. I went for a blood test yesterday because I have an underactive thyroid so I thought period being late could be linked to that. However they also did pregnancy test too via blood, I had a call from them this morning saying it looks like I’m pregnant and they want to do another blood test in 2 days time to confirm. Has anyone ever had experience of finding out this way and is it normal for them to do a follow up test? And is the first blood test usually right?

Thanks

Hello!
It's completely normal for them to do blood tests to confirm pregnancy. They're looking for the HCG hormone in your blood (which they must have found in yours) and for a viable pregnancy this should double every 48 hours, so that's why they do the follow up! If it doesn't quite double then they will probably have you in for a few more blood tests every few days. So just be prepared to feel like a pin cushion! X
