Losing weight For Conception

Hi All!

I have birth to my son in April. I have put on a lot of weight both during pregnancy and the subsequent lockdowns and now have about 8 stone to lose to get to where I want to be (long term)

I would like to start TTC again in Feb/March next year so would like to lose some weight before then and thought if any of you are in a similar position, you would like to have a group?

Cards on the table, I'm not using any contraception as it took so long to get pg the last time (about 7 years) so a bfp COULD be achieved but I very much doubt it at my current weight! My period only returned last month!

Symptom spotting to be expected 😁

Yes I'd like to join in please 😁 my coil is coming out tomorrow but we will be using condoms as I'd like to be healthier before ttc, and get to know my natural cycles so that when we try I know we are trying at the right times (I have endometriosis so want to give myself the best chance possible!). I am getting weighed tomorrow by the doctor but anticipate I probably have 4ish stone to lose... Lockdown has not been kind to me either but tbf was probably 3 stone overweight before that so not sure how much I can blame on that 😂😂

Hahaha hey it's 2020, I feel like we can blame all weight gain on lockdown 😂

Ooh it's so exciting! Are you going to follow a plan? I've decided to do SW, might as well try it whilst the meeting are on zoom still.

Hello 😊 I've already been TTC my first for a year but wonder if I can join you? I'm sure my weight isn't helping me TTC so maybe talking to other people trying to lose weight will give me a kick up the butt? It'd also be nice to focus on something other than just wanting a baby!

Of course @MrsKin90! The more the merrier! I'm thinking it'll help motivate me too! I wasn't planning on doing a plan @Fatladyslim but I've had such an appalling week so far that I think a little more structure may be needed 😂 I've just started my first AF in a while (I had mirena coil and was in an induced menopause) and logged it on an app and starting to get to know my cycles has motivated me! Think I need to order some scales and stop messing about.. Will be doing a food shop tomorrow so will plan it around SW!! Not sure if I'll join though, will try for a couple of weeks just following the plan and see how I get on as I've been before so know how it works!

My Flo app was telling me today that a good place to start is introducing a new veg or fruit to each meal and I'm sat here thinking I actually haven't eaten a proper portion of fruit or veg today 😂 and I have the nerve to blame my bad skin on masks and hormones

MrsKin90 · 12/12/2020 14:05

@Endogal slimming world worked for me before!! 😊I lost 3.5 stone (I think? Ha it was ages ago now and can't remember) through slimming world! I kept it off for 2-3 years but as soon as I came off birth control I gained almost 3 stone in a year 😬. My point being I think, don't be too hard on yourself or anything as your hormones settle after the coil!
Will you be taking measurements as well (hips and waist especially)? Sometimes the scales don't move but you can still be losing inches, but I've not been brave enough to do that yet as the scales is scary enough without knowing how many inches I've gained in a year as well 😳

Endogal · 14/12/2020 19:26

@MrsKin90 as if! I suppose everyone reacts so differently to birth control! I feel like my mood has lifted so much just a week off the coil, its probably just psychological but still nice 😂 I probably won't do measurements as I bloat alot however I did get some swanky scales that measure body fat percentage so I'll probably focus on that more as I don't want to get too fixated on weight knowing how out it can be! I do feel alot better after facing the scales this morning... I've had a healthy day and been on a nice walk too I don't think I'd have been as motivated without seeing the reality, my BMI is 42 so deffs above where I want it to be for TTC. Plus on the bright side the heavier you are the easier it usually is to lose it at the beginning 😂 I also totally agree it's nice to have it to focus on I feel like all I've done is obsess about babies but now I have something else to think about!

MrsKin90 · 15/12/2020 12:04

Oh I definitely felt so much better mentally after stopping birth control! I have scales that do that 😂 not sure how much I trust them as they were quite cheap, let me know how you get on!

Well done on having a healthy day yesterday! I hope today is going in a similar way to you.
I feel like I've got a hunger bug today so trying to resist temptation to snack all day! Like a lot of people I've started working from home, only part of the week, and I just hate the ability to reach into the cupboard or fridge at every tummy rumble. I also seem to suck at planning my food on the days I'm at home so going to work on that this week!
