Bit of a long one girls,

For the past couple of months I’ve been struggling with really heavy periods out of the blue, thought nothing of it. The last couple of weeks though my mood has got really low, I’m crying ALOT over nothing and I’m just extremely emotional. I’m not pregnant. Thinking it could all be linked, heavy periods, fatigue, low mood etc. Spoke to the doctor and having special bloods done between day 2-5 of my period. Has anyone had this? Is it to check hormone levels or will they be able to tell if it’s something more like PCOS! Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Hiya

So sorry you’re going through this. Hormones are horrible, especially low moods where your chest hurts and your stomach feels empty... I know it well.

I had bloods and mine was general, I think they tested my thyroid, whether I was anemic (can’t spell), I’m sure she said celiac disease. I came back with anemia and was put on iron but it really did nothing to improve my moods. How far off is this test? It’s worth asking the nurse when you’re there. I’m afraid I don’t know how they test for pcos so can’t shed light on that.

I did start taking calcium, zinc, magnesium and vitimin d. I also found a website with a day by day of what happens in my cycle so I could tally it to me my mood, I felt more “sane” when my mood slipped and I could say, well it’s because my progesterone is rising etc. Do keep speaking with your dr, it could be that they might suggest cbt or something to cope with the low moods.

I know a bit of a wishy washy reply, but just wanted to send well wishes. I hope the tests brings you some answers and they can help x

If it's PCOS they will be checking the balance of FSH and LH and possibly get you in for an ultrasound based on that. GL! These things are so stressful but honestly this is the hard bit, once you know what you're dealing with it's much easier to manage xx

Hello, and thank you both for replying. So will they be able to see my egg count (not sure on right terms) or how fertile I am with this blood test? I'm hoping it's not PCOS As I don't have many of there symptoms and my periods are back on time every month but we will see! Thank you

and thank you thisisbananas3 for your lovely reply too. I do have a scan booked in for Tuesday to check up on everything too so seems like I'm on the right track. It's just my low moods I'm really not coping with, one minute I'm ok the next I'm crying out of nowhere feeling really sorry for myself! Feeling low is the most horrible, lonely feeling but I know so many of us go through it! Good luck to you xx
