Positive test after period??

Hi ladies, I’m wondering if anyone has ever been in the same boat and could help me out. Yesterday I finished up with AF and today decided to take an ovulation test to get a better idea of when I ovulate in my cycle. The ovulation test was a blaring positive, which I know is unusual. So just out of curiosity I decided to take a pregnancy test using wee that I’d help for max 2 hrs. It’s come back positive and I’m just so so baffled. Can anyone relate or has anyone been through something similar?

Positive test after period??

It can happen

88bowie · 02/12/2020 19:10

Was it like a normal af ? Think the best best is to give ur gp a ring, maybe for bloods for hcg levels and referral to epu

Chica1990 · 02/12/2020 20:58

I had a positive pregnancy test 3 or 4 days into what I thought was a period and I was ectopic. However some people when I posted it on the thread here had the same as you and were fine.

Are you bleeding or have cramping now? I would get bloods done just to rule out ectopic.

sanmiguel · 02/12/2020 21:00

I had a period for about the first 3-4 months.

jessicalouise10 · 02/12/2020 21:05

Was your AF normal length?
This happened to me, the ovulation test making me think I should test!
I would phone your local EPU, and if you're over 6 weeks they should see you for a scan.
Mine wasn't good news unfortunately, but I have my fingers crossed for you.

20viona · 02/12/2020 21:07

This was like me. I was adamant I had had a period and I got the same as you, blazing positives on OPK and pregnancy tests! We were so shocked at the time, now my 18 month old is sleeping next door :)

mamaatthegym · 02/12/2020 21:33

Happened to me and I had had a chemical pregnancy - wouldn’t have known unless I tested and like you I only tested because my OPK was positive on CD10.

Like others said though it can go either way. Only blood tests 48 hours apart will tell you if the pregnancy is progressing or not.

I hope it works out for you x

Aila1994 · 02/12/2020 21:47

Thanks so much for the replies. It was the exact same as every other period I’ve ever had! I’m not cramping at all now, will ring my GP in the morning to see if they can help put my mind at ease either way!

Hi Chica,

Sorry to hear about your experience Thanks
Can I ask what it was that made you want to test, if you'd already started your period? Did you have symptoms as well?

Hope all becomes a bit clearer for you soon OP, I'm sure you're not sure what to think atm! Xx

whambam89 · 02/12/2020 22:30

Hi OP,

As Chica said, I would make an appointment to check all is ok - I have read stories where it's happened and people have been fine but I also had the same thing and it ended up being ectopic. Best to get it checked out. Hope all is ok for you and congratulations! X

Chica1990 · 02/12/2020 22:39

@Cinderella2020 I’d had bleeding between the period before that and then the period I tested on. The whole cycle had been weird and I was going to go in a hot tub so I thought I was just doing one to clear my conscious. My friends said it must have been instinct.

I thought I was 3/4 weeks when I tested but I was actually 8 when I had it removed (I had actually tested the month before before getting in a hot tub again and it was negative). My thread is here if you’re interested - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/4035764-Pregnant-after-lots-of-bleeding

OP lots of people did say they had bleeding so fingers crossed! I just would try and check the bloods to put your mind at rest

Mrsmummy90 · 02/12/2020 23:33

A friend of mine had a period at the beginning of her pregnancy and I know a few others who've had light periods throughout.
Hopefully your gp can refer you for a scan xx

Aila1994 · 03/12/2020 13:27

I went to the doctors this morning. They took a urine sample and bloods to check my HCG levels. I’ll keep you all updated, I’m trying to remain optimistic but not in any way getting my hopes up because I likely know how this is going to turn out 😩.

Chica1990 · 03/12/2020 15:04

Are they doing another test for you in a couple of days to compare?

Really hoping for a good outcome for you!

Aila1994 · 03/12/2020 15:18

I don’t get my results until Monday. I’d say they want to see what my numbers are first before bringing me in for a second test. All super confusing! My line did get darker today which is scaring me towards thinking if it isn’t viable it may be ectopic (just assuming if I was miscarried my levels would drop). But if it is we’ve caught it early as I’d only be 4 weeks 6 days today!

whambam89 · 03/12/2020 15:36

@Ailla1994 hope all ends up ok for you 🤞

Mrsmummy90 · 03/12/2020 19:57

Keeping everything crossed for you op xx

Aila1994 · 04/12/2020 09:05

Hi everyone! Just a little update. Doctor rang me this morning with my results. My beta HCG levels are 45. So not great (was 4 weeks 6 days yesterday). She thinks last weeks bleed was either a miscarriage and my levels are now dropping, or implantation and my levels are low because I’m so early on. Back in on Monday, but not hopeful as the bleeding was so heavy and not similar to what I imagined implantation bleeding would be.

Chica1990 · 06/12/2020 18:23

Good luck tomorrow @Aila1994 x

Aila1994 · 06/12/2020 19:53

@Chica1990 thanks so much. Not feeling great about the whole thing. Have had really dull aches, not cramps or anything, feels more like gas maybe, it’s hard to explain. (On my lower left abdomen) So I’m really worried about an ectopic now. If my results tomorrow increase by less than they are expecting I am going to ask that they rule out an ectopic early to lessen the chance of me losing a tube. Does anyone know how they go about checking for an ectopic at such an early stage (5 weeks)?

OP posts:
Chica1990 · 06/12/2020 20:45

It must be mental torture to be in this limbo, I feel awful for you going through it.

I’m not sure if they can tell from a scan at 5 weeks (I was 8 and they couldn’t find it) but they might be able to tell from the bloods.

I’ve still got my fingers crossed it’s all ok! Try and distract yourself tonight x

whambam89 · 06/12/2020 21:07

@Aila1994 they would monitor your HCG levels via bloods if nothing can be seen on a scan. They have to be in the thousands if you're at risk of a ruptured tube so hopefully you'll be ok for a week or so of monitoring. If it does then out to be ectopic then they can treat with methotrexate or carry on monitoring to see if your levels come down naturally. If you have to have a methotrexate injection you then can't try for 3 months after x

Macbookbaby · 06/12/2020 23:29

Oh my god!! I’ll keep everything crossed for you that it’s all okay!!! Let us know how you get on! Keeping everything crossed xx

Mrsmummy90 · 06/12/2020 23:41

Good luck tomorrow! I really hope everything is ok xx
