The Doctor Told Me To Google It!

Hi All,

I know this has been asked before but I kind of wanted direct information.

So my partner (35) and I (27) have set a plan for my coming off my birth control at the end of December to start ttc in the new year.

I called my Doctor (UK) to make an appointment to chat with someone about coming off my pill- I've been on Cerelle for 8 years with no period and I wanted to know what to expect when all those hormones leave my body, I know it can take a while for periods to start again but how long should I wait before going to the Doctor if they don't come back.

I also wanted to know what sort of things I should be doing to improve my chances in ttc, like what vitamins should I be taking etc.

They told me they don't offer appointments for that anymore and to just Google it.

So, I have Googled it but there is just so much information I thought I would turn to you for help. Any advice?

Take folic acid and vitamin D.
Might take a few months for your period to return or it might not

I would come off of hormonal birth control now if you want to TTC in the new year and would use a barrier method instead.

In terms of how long your period might be missing before contacting a doctor. I'd say anything up to 6 weeks after your withdrawal bleed is very normal. But from memory, they're normally not interested until you've missed at least a couple of periods (so somewhere in the region of 2-3 months after your withdrawal bleed).

As a PP suggested only Vitamin D and Folic Acid are recommended when TTC.

I second this! Come of the pill now and give yourself a good few months to get your cycle back to normal and use condoms to cover you for a while. Saves a lot of confusion and upset when you start TTC because coming off the mini pill causes lots of pregnancy like symptoms and it can take a while for your period to return. Good luck!

I came off cerelle in may last year after being on it for a few years, I had a withdrawal bleed straight away and then a period 4 weeks later and that was my last period until after I gave birth earlier this year! Good luck Star
