High HCG Levels After MC

Hi everyone, I just wondered if anyone has been through something similar as I'm really confused right now!

I had a MC at 6 and a half weeks round about the beginning of October. I knew it would take time for everything to sort itself out and my hormones get back to normal. I've been taking pregnancy tests (roughly one a week) to monitor my HCG levels and check they were going down. I believe they had started to (never gone completely though) yet I've just done a test this afternoon and the line is darker than ever! Is it possible I could be pregnant so soon? Or that everything didn't pass properly during the MC? I just feel a bit lost and confused so any advice would be really appreciated.

Hi @EmmaAM

Sorry to hear about your MC, it is difficult. Do you go medical support after the MC? It is possible for everything not to have passed and if you Havnt you should go to your GP or maternity unit. They normally scan to make sure everything has passed and also do blood tests to monitor hcg levels and make sure they are going down to confirm.

It is important to get seen. To make sure everything has passed and your cycle has returned and make sure there is no chance of infection, and very rare chance of ectopic.

If you were already scanned etc and everything was clear, it is possible to be pregnant again, as your cycle can start again straight away on the first day of bleeding.

But if hcg levels Never went down I think It sounds to me like the first explanation is the most likely.

Ring your GP in the morning, they will want to monitor you. My HCG levels didn’t fall when I was told I’d miscarried, it transpired it was an ectopic pregnancy. If they’ve not fallen after two weeks it’s a cause for concern.

EmmaAM · 17/11/2020 22:35

Thank you so much for your replies. I'm going to ring the doctors in the morning and hopefully sort it all out!

Let us know how you get on Emma.

Bouncytree · 19/11/2020 08:21

@EmmaAM did you get your appointment? Let us know how you got on. Hope you are doing ok

EmmaAM · 19/11/2020 08:27

So I spoke to the doctors. Went for a blood test yesterday and then I think I have to go for another one tomorrow to see what my HCG levels are actually doing. I'm hoping to have an actual answer by the end of this week 🤞🤞

Fingers crossed for you Emma.

Bouncytree · 19/11/2020 21:00

@EmmaAM that’s great Emma will be good to get clarity on the levels. I had mine tested 3 times till it fell quite low before they maternity unit would sign me off and even then they told me to do a test 3 weeks later to make sure.

Sounds like you are getting good care.

Fingers crossed and just to say if you are worrying about ectopic, which I was, it kept playing on my mind, it is very rare so chances are low.

LyingDogsLie1 · 20/11/2020 15:07

Any news?

EmmaAM · 20/11/2020 15:30

So my HCG levels are at 82,000...going for another blood test on Monday to compare the two and then we go from there I guess!

Wow, those levels are quite high. Did you ever get confirmation you were miscarrying?

LyingDogsLie1 · 20/11/2020 15:50

That’s very high - what were your levels when they scanned you?

EmmaAM · 20/11/2020 15:53

I never got scanned or anything, I let the midwife know and believed I had just miscarried myself at home. I'm becoming more and more convinced that it was an incomplete MC if I'm honest.

OP posts:
LyingDogsLie1 · 20/11/2020 15:56

Are they not going to scan you now? How can they be sure it was a miscarriage at all. They should be able to see something on a scan at 2000 HCG so you’re way past that.

ShalomToYouJackie · 20/11/2020 15:57

Is it possible you didn't miscarry? Or it might be, as you say, an incomplete miscarriage.

Sending you lots of strength and hope you get some answers soon x

EmmaAM · 20/11/2020 16:29

I'm hoping after this second blood test, they will give me a scan. Very much sick of being in this limbo stage now as it's dragging out what is already a horrible thing to go through 😔 thank you so much for your kind words and help, it's really made me feel better ❤️

LyingDogsLie1 · 20/11/2020 17:06

I’m really surprised they haven’t scanned you already!

Chica1990 · 20/11/2020 17:27

Wow those levels are really high! What kind of bleeding did you get with your MC and for how long?

Fingers crossed you get a good outcome but you’re right to prepare yourself for bad news. Please keep us updated!!

Bouncytree · 22/11/2020 23:06

How did you get on @EmmaAM? Hope your doing ok

Chica1990 · 23/11/2020 21:31

How did you get on today @EmmaAM? Hope you’re ok xx

EmmaAM · 27/11/2020 22:12

Hi guys, sorry it's taken so long to reply, it's been a very bizarre week or so! I went for my scan today which I thought would confirm my miscarriage...only to find I was 13 and a half weeks pregnant! I quite honestly burst into tears in the middle of the scan and I still can't quite believe it now!

@EmmaAM may have just teared up for a complete stranger on the internet, but I am SO happy for you! Congratulations, what incredible news! X

cavatron · 27/11/2020 22:26

Oh my goodness this is amazing! Congratulations!

stronglikemytea · 27/11/2020 22:30

Amazing news! Congratulations xxxxxx

EmmaAM · 28/11/2020 05:52

Thank you so much guys, I honestly still can't believe it! My mother-in-law thinks maybe I had another egg at one point and that was maybe the reason for the bleeding? Either way, I am so unbelievably grateful as I know not everyone gets good news like this ❤️❤️
