First time charting my bbt can someone help

Hi I have started charting my bbt this cycle and I don't really understand it. Can any body help me. I have attached the chart from my phone app.

@Mummy2girlz there's not much to see there yet as it looks like you're just coming out of your fertile phase? You need to wait for your temperature to rise and stay risen for 3 days to confirm ovulation. Even then it takes a couple of cycles to notice any pattern with BBT. Also, Fertility Friend is much easier to read

So if the temperature stays up should I still be having sex those days? Or did my fertile time end at the dip? I will try fertility friend thankyou :)

@Mummy2girlz the dip will be ovulation day so you're better to have DTD in the run up

O thankyou so much :) so that was yesterday so today I would be 1dpo?

By that chart you have not ovulated yet. You need three temps all higher than the six before the rise to be sure of ovulation -- in other words, you are never sure about when it happened until a few days afterwards. You should definitely keep trying every day or two for now.

Today I checked both my ears for temps, one was 36.7 and the other was 36.5
What do I do? Have I done something wrong?

@Mummy2girlz your ears? Are you using a proper BBT thermometer, with 2 decimal places? They're to be used orally or vaginally

@Mummy2girlz yes ideally you should be using a BBT thermometer which goes to 2 decimal places. Best to stick to the same way of taking your temp every day as well as the same time so if you do it orally always do it that way. It's years since I charted but I did it for yonks because I did it for contraception for years before ttc in my case my temp shift was always large and it was perfectly obvious when I'd ovulated even with slightly sloppy practice (ordinary thermometer, not quite the same time every day etc) but for some women it's less obvious and it won't be clear if you don't do it "properly".

I would recommend using something like an Ovusense to take the temps as it does it vaginally throughout the night so gives you a very accurate reading. Otherwise for a cheaper option I would do a BBT thermometer but you have to be more specific about how you use it eg I believe you have to take it around the same time every morning, before you get up and move around etc. Temping when done right is massively useful though. I don't see ovulation on your chart yet. Good luck.

Yes that's right, as @ellenpartridge says you should try to take your temp in the same way and at the same time every day, before you get up and move around and before you've been awake for long. So if you're serious about it the best thing to do is set an alarm for the earliest you regularly need to get up, take your temp and note it down, and then on days when you don't need to get up at that time you can just go back to sleep for a while. This is what you should do while learning the technique. Though as I said above in practice some women will have very clear charts which will still be obvious with a more relaxed approach. I think the best book is still "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" which explains everything really clearly for DIY charting, though obviously there are loads of apps and gadgets and things now too, I am just old!

I have been taking my temp each morning 7am as my daughter has school which helps lots. My temp did say 36.5 this morning, my cervix is low soft and definitely open with ewcm :))) im hoping the next few days show a spike and I have ovulated thankyou for all your advice ill pop in and let you know if I am right :)

I’d definitely recommend OvuSense! I use it. It’s so easy. I knew I’d never get to grips with charting my regular bbt as I couldn’t reliably take my temp at the same time etc. But OvuSense is amazing. I just pop the sensor internally when I go to bed, then take it out in the morning and link it to my phone where it records the temp for me in the OvuSense app. I then use those temperatures to put into fertility friend. It’s been spot on at telling my my fertile window and then pinpointing my ovulation date. I have still used opk’s on the days it says I’m fertile and got my peak when expected. This month, only the second cycle using it (after 14 months ttc) I have got a bfp!!

I have kept tracking my bbt this month the same as I started so if its unsuccessful I'll try a new Thermometer next month. Here is my chart,I thought the dip was my ovulation but im not sure can you give any thoughts:)

again its been a few days and I'm still trying to make sense today my bbt dropped 0.9 degree and I read its meant to stay up if your pregnant. I did have a smear yesterday and spotted a bit. Has it done something wrongsad

Hello @Mummy2girlz that is a slightly confusing chart. Have you been tracking other signs too? I would say at the moment that ovulation looks to have been on Day 18, because the high temp on Day 17 is hollow, meaning an unreliable figure (perhaps you took this one at a different time?). The temps of days 19-21 are all clearly above the temps up to day 18 if you exclude day 17, and even if you leave day 17 in, they are all still just above that line (this is the 3 temps over the 6 before rule). The dip today is a bit odd though -- a few women do sometimes see an 'implantation dip' though it would be a bit early for that. If you exclude day 17 though then the cover line would be at about 36.75 and even today's low temp would still be just above it. So with this chart I would personally override ff's settings (switch to manual) and put day 18 as likely ovulation with a cover line at above 36.75.

Have you been charting other signs too? This might help.

Yes I had ewcm and right pelvic cramps on cycle day 14,15 and 16. Tender boobs etc from cycle day 18

This is today still above cover line but not looking too good for bfp

@Mummy2girlz can I ask how you're taking your temps as they're very high? I've never seen them be over 37 degrees like that. Most of them also seem to be bang on the decimal? Ie 37.1 vs 37.13 which is unusual too.

O I have just been taking them with a Thermometer this is my first month. If I'm negative this month I'll be investing in a 2 decimal Thermometer :(

Do you think maybe there's a health issue as to why my temps are this high? Take my temps at 7am every morning before I get out of bed

@Mummy2girlz hopefully no health issue, it might just be the thermometer or how you take it - is it orally?

Also all your little triangles mean you've taken them at odd times - if you really can't take them at the same time everyday it might be worth giving bbt temp adjuster a shot? www.whenmybaby.com/basalbodytemperature.php

You're meant to use it sparingly though!
