TTC No 3

So who is ttc no 3 and how are you getting on? I had no problems conceiving ds (whilst on the pill - oops!) and dd (took 4 cycles). This time seems to be taking a bit longer and am getting an bit anxious - probably for no reason but its good to share experiences etc. Had m/c second cycle after finished b/f dd which had quite a toll on me physically and emotionally even though I was only 6 weeks-ish.

I am and thought I could possib;y be until today when that very nasty relative came to stay.

I have a dd (nearly 7) and a ds (4) didn't think I wanted another until started trying and now it seems to be the only thing thats on my mind. Only 1st month of trying, so only at the beginning

tadpole · 21/10/2004 17:24

We've tried unsuccessfully for over 18 months now. DDs only took 6 and 3 months.

Hi, Have DS's of 6 and nearly 4. Fell pg with both the first month of trying ..... my period is due this weekend (first month of ttc no.3) and i am trying not to get my hopes up/ test too early ... but if i'm not pg it will be a weird feeling because it will be the first time i have tried and NOT been successful (I dont mean that in a selfish way because i know it can take ages for some people - i have just been lucky in that department)

Sallie · 22/10/2004 11:31

My ds is 2years 2mths and my dd is 8 mnths. Fell pg with ds when on the pill and dd took 5 cycles. Now wondering if if might be best to wait a few mths - had a m/c in Sept and also would probably prefer not to have another summer baby. My ds was born right at the end of August which means he will be very young for his age. Its also probably going to be my last baby . For various other reasons incl work, it may be best to start ttc in Dec and stop for the next 2 mths but am in a real quandry. Any advice?

I'm ttc no 3. ds was conceived when i was 16 so had no trouble there. dd's now 16 months and she was conceived very easily as well. No3 seems to be causing a few more problems. Like you I didn't realise I wanted another so badly until I started trying. I've been trying for a few months with no success and now dh is working nights Got a feeling it might take a lot longer this time. Good luck to everyone else!

Sallie · 22/10/2004 11:54

Pamina - thanks. Part of me agrees - perhaps we should just wait and see what happens. As my dh says, things usually happen for the right reasons, at the right time etc. But would really prefer to have no 3 from Sept onwards, rather in July/August. We might be moving too which is an additional complication....decisions, decisions!!!

Hello, can I sneak in?

We've been trying for no. 3 since Feb, no luck so far, but I'm 39 and 3/4 a getting pretty desperate as 40 is looming so soon. We have a ds of 9 (who took 1 month when I was 30) and dd of 5 (who took 4 mths when I was 34). I m/c'd at 6 weeks, 4 years ago (that pg was accidental) and since then have longed for a 3rd.

I've decided to give it just a few more months as I feel I'm getting a bit ancient now but just want to let nature take it's course for a couple of months.

I was on one of the ttc threads but resigned myself off it because I found it was making me more and more obsessive, which I don't believe helps one bit. I'm trying very hard to relax and let nature take over, if that's possible.

Good luck to you all, and here's to some success!

Love Wifeof xx

I think (!) we have decided to just go for it and see what happens. I do believe that things happen for the right reasons in the end and why put things off. So who knows, I might have a summer babe after all...work permitting of course!!!

spykid · 25/10/2004 10:11

Sallie, in the same position as you!
have ds1 age 6 and ds2 age 4, started trying for no 3 last month with no joy
think we have decided to wait a couple of months to try again. Same as you would rather have baby born after august. Other 2 ds's are sept and oct b'days, and being a teacher I know what a difference it 'can' make to be born at that time of year.
We also always take the children away to our caravan for the whole six weeks, and this would have to be forgotten if no3 came along july /aug.
I just want to disrupt their routine as little as poss.
It's hard to decide the right thing to do i agree, we desperatley want no.3, and don't want to sound 'choosy' that we are trying to pick the months it is born. I think your attitude is great,...'what will be will be!'

golds · 25/10/2004 10:21

I'm the same spykid, I would be grateful whatever month my 3rd is born, but it would be preferable if it was after the holidays. One of my close friends had a newborn this year in the holidays and it was a pain for her to keep 1 & 2 happy, having said that she didn't drive and there is not alot to do around here without transport. I suppose you just have to make the effort to do things.

I think it would be nice to be able to get to know No.3 whilst 1 & 2 are safetly tucked up at school.

spykid · 25/10/2004 10:29

great minds golds!
I think the decision is harder when you have other children to consider. Pretty sure we are going to wait a couple of months, how about you?

Sallie · 25/10/2004 10:42

Agree with all of what you say, spykid and golds. However, in my mind, I would just like to get on with things now. Also, I think I would live to regret it if we postponed things now and then had trouble conceiving later on, if you know what I mean? DS (my no 1) was conceived when I was on the pill and dd arrived 17 mths later so we haven't exactly planned anything so far! There are benefits to a summer baby - light nights and mornings help and so does being able to get out and about. Don't think I would like being stuck at home in rainy weather with 3 under 3!!! We will see anyway...good luck with whatever you decide. As I said, I think things tend to happen for the best in the end

OP posts:
golds · 25/10/2004 10:57

Absolutely, If I had my time again, I would have tried for No.3 sooner and have a smaller age gap, however at that time, I wasn't even contemplating another, its only now that the other two are off my hands (so to speak) that I have realised how much I want another.

I do keep changing my mind, as in next year it could be the first year where we could go aboard for our hols, we have more freedom now, we have just all had new bikes to go riding at a weekend, could possibly go to Disney in a few years etc etc... do I really want to start again, and for every NO I have in my head, it is always followed by a 'well I want one, I haven't finished yet'.

I think I will be a bit casual about trying the next few months, (if that's possible) but will be delighted if it happens, but if unsucessful, then I will really make an effort after Christmas.

MommyD · 25/10/2004 10:57

We have also started trying for #3. I came off the minipill in Nov 2000 and started trying for our first in April 2001. Felll pg after 4 cycles. ds2 was a one off when ds1 was 7 months. I thought that I would never get pg so we took ONE risk - hence ds2. Started trying for #3 last cycle (although stopped bd on cd11 as dh was working away). This is cycle# 2. Thought I'd be really chilled out about ttc#3, but find myself getting really keen really quickly. The desire for a third is just SO strong. I am 36 and very conscious of my age - so want to get on with it!

Sallie · 25/10/2004 11:23

I know what you mean about getting keen really quickly!!! I was keen to get started ttc no 3 almost as soon as I had given birth to dd. Have been very lucky as have had two very good labours and births with no lasting physical problems. Also like being pg. Am just hoping that after no 3 I will feel that my family is complete! I know that dh doesn't want any more but am not quite sure how I will feel. He is very much speaking from his wallet, me from my heart!!!

OP posts:
MommyD · 25/10/2004 12:11

Sallie - like you I like being pg. Unlike you I had a traumatic first birth and an ok second, both emergency c-sections. Like you I feel broody straight after giving birth. If I was younger and richer I reckon I would just keep on going with the number of kids - age, cash and the fact that I can only have 3 sections, stop me having any more than three.
I find myself thinking about getting pg with my third a lot. Like you, I am hoping that (being one of three myself) I will feel that my family is complete after 3.... Not a lot I can do about it if that doesn't happen.
I keep thinking I am going to struggle to get pg this time - what with my age and the sections. Already, after one 'failed' cycle I am thinking what can I do to boost my chances. Mad or what???

Sallie · 25/10/2004 12:30

I am exactly the same as you mommyd - am one of three and have always wanted to have three myself - and fairly close together too. I grew up with two siblings close in age and want the same for my kids. Like you, I don't think our finances would support more so that will be the limiting factor and like you I am beginning to think I am going to have problems ttc no3 even though have only had 3 cycles so far. Had an early m/c (6wks) at the beginning of Sept which had a bigger impact on me mentally and physically than I could ever have imagined.

OP posts:
MommyD · 25/10/2004 12:43

Sallie - I only realised how much i wanted three when (accidentally) I thought I might have fallen pg a few months back. I was nervous but excited at the prospect.... and truly gutted when AF arrived 4 days late. We decided to start trying for #3 in Oct... and wow, did I look forward to October? And here I am cd7. October cycle 'failed' and moving on to cycle 2. Come on baby, where are you? I didn't have to think about this AT ALL for ds2 - he just happened.
So sorry about your m/c

Tessiebear · 25/10/2004 13:26

Mommyd - i think the ONLY reason you didnt get pg this month was that your DH was away on the critical few days - i am sure you will be lucky this month

MommyD · 25/10/2004 13:35

TB-ta for the positive vibes. Yes the fact that dh was away from cd12 onwards didn't help! I have my fingers crossed for this cycle, although dh goes away on cd15 - hopefully will have ov by then!

Sallie · 25/10/2004 13:38

Best of luck MommyD! No such reasons for me as dh has not been away. Hopefully this month will bring success and happiness to at least some of us.....TB many congrats!!!!
