Fertility after Mirena

Hi. I'm getting my Mirena removed next week because we're going to start trying. I've had a Mirena for 7 years now (first for 5 years, then replaced 2 years ago). As far as I can tell, I seem to be having regular cycles ('egg white' CM once a month). I don't have periods but every 2–3 months I have spotting two weeks after the (possible) ovulation symptoms, i.e. the spotting always comes at the time I'd expect a period.

I know that fertility can return to normal right after Mirena removal, but I've also read that some women seem to have issues with irregular or anovulatory cycles. Is the fact that I have regular cycles while on the Mirena a good sign for fertility, or is it just too soon to tell? And even if I do ovulate quickly after Mirena removal, am I risking my uterine lining being too thin, since I haven't had a proper period for years?

To give further context, while I'm trying to conceive and also if/when pregnant, I will have to stop taking a daily medication that I'm currently on and which helps me a lot, so I'm trying to figure out whether to come off medication and start trying straight away or give myself a few months for my cycle to settle first. (I'm 32, partner nearly 40.)

I've read as much as I can online (and spoken to my GP) so really I'd just like to hear people's real-life experiences – did your cycle while on the Mirena mean anything at all??

Hi, i had the Mirena in for about a year, during which i had absolutely no period.

Like yourself i did notice the ewcm and felt twinges which i had assumed where ovulation twinges.
I Had the Mirena Removed in September i had what i thought was a withdrawal bleed in september/October. I got a positive pregnancy test this morning. It Appears that my Cycle stayed very regular throughout my use of the mirena.

Congratulations! I know there are no guarantees (about any of this) but that's really encouraging to hear :)

It took me 3 months to get my first period after 10
Years (2 different Mirenas) then my periods were regular since 24 day cycle since.
I fell pregnant in February and had very early miscarriage at 5 weeks. Then fell pregnant in September- should be 8 1/2 weeks but sadly having another miscarriage.
Good luck with your journey. If you have medication you have to stop it my be worth getting a cycle and using ovulation sticks so you have an idea and then can stop your meds.
I used ovulation test and my EWCM didn’t coincide with the test! Wish you all the best.

@misty1000 hey! I had the merina for four years, I had no periods during this time, I had it removed and periods returned after 32 days - I fell pregnant that month but sadly miscarried at 7 weeks, fast forward exactly a year and I am 6 +4 xx

Just updating for anyone who searches this in future. Had my Mirena removed just after my period (which was v. light while on Mirena), ovulated two weeks later and fell pregnant – now 23 weeks and everything is going well! Hope everyone else is doing okay.
