Hi. I'm getting my Mirena removed next week because we're going to start trying. I've had a Mirena for 7 years now (first for 5 years, then replaced 2 years ago). As far as I can tell, I seem to be having regular cycles ('egg white' CM once a month). I don't have periods but every 2–3 months I have spotting two weeks after the (possible) ovulation symptoms, i.e. the spotting always comes at the time I'd expect a period.
I know that fertility can return to normal right after Mirena removal, but I've also read that some women seem to have issues with irregular or anovulatory cycles. Is the fact that I have regular cycles while on the Mirena a good sign for fertility, or is it just too soon to tell? And even if I do ovulate quickly after Mirena removal, am I risking my uterine lining being too thin, since I haven't had a proper period for years?
To give further context, while I'm trying to conceive and also if/when pregnant, I will have to stop taking a daily medication that I'm currently on and which helps me a lot, so I'm trying to figure out whether to come off medication and start trying straight away or give myself a few months for my cycle to settle first. (I'm 32, partner nearly 40.)
I've read as much as I can online (and spoken to my GP) so really I'd just like to hear people's real-life experiences – did your cycle while on the Mirena mean anything at all??
