LH Surge confusion

Hello all,

I’m really quite confused and I’m hoping someone can help.

I started using Clearblue digital OPKs alongside ICs on cycle day 9 and was getting the low fertility result each day. Yesterday was cycle day 13 and I jumped straight from low fertility to peak fertility on the CBD (missing the high fertility days). At the same time I used an IC which showed a peak. In the evening I done another IC which also showed up as high fertility.

I used another IC this morning and it was negative, although not as negative as the negatives I had pre peak.

Does this mean I have ovulated and can stop DTD?

Any advise would be appreciated.

I would keep it up for a couple of days to be sure. You don't ovulate when you get a positive OPK, you ovulate anywhere between 12-48 hours after.

Char899 · 06/11/2020 14:29

@Boredinthehouse12 some people just miss the high and go straight to peak! It can happen quickly so that’s why you should test at least twice a day. Once you get a positive opk you are likely to ovulate within 12-36 hours. If you got your positive yesterday you are probably ovulating today (it’s ov day for me too I had my peak yesterday) so defo keep DTD today and maybe tomorrow too!

Char899 · 06/11/2020 14:33

@Boredinthehouse12 also if you have recently come off birth control I would advise carrying on testing for a few days. I say this because I had a peak on cd 11, thought I ovulated cd 12 then I had a peak cd 14, figured my body failed to ovulate and was trying again and then I didn’t DTD for a few days and suddenly got a blazing positive yesterday (test line darker than control line) so if I hadn’t carried on testing I would have assumed I ovulated days ago and would have missed the window! I came off the pill in August and my body is still a bit confused! Thought I’d let you know just incase Smile

Are you monitoring your temperature? That's the only way to definitely confirm ovulation has happened but looks like you will be ovulating very soon if you haven't already.

Char899 · 06/11/2020 14:37

@ButterscotchBabe that’s another reason o carried on testing with opks. My temp didn’t rise! Good shout!

ellenpartridge · 06/11/2020 14:40

I would continue until you've had a sustained rise in temperature. If you're temping I'd rely on your chart for confirmation and I'd continue to have sex for a good three days after peak OPK. Good luck.

ButterscotchBabe · 06/11/2020 14:50

@Char899 that's interesting what you said about when you ovulated, what cycle day did you get the final peak? I'm curious because I also came off the pill in August, my first cycle was 21 days (so a write off), 2nd and 3rd cycles were 26 days but ovulation has been between CD18 and CD19 with af around a week later. So obviously my luteal phase is way too short. Are you experiencing this? I'm really hoping my body sorts itself out this cycle.

Char899 · 06/11/2020 15:13

@ButterscotchBabe I think yesterday cd 20 was my proper peak. The first 2 only lasted a couple of hours and then dropped but this one last overnight and through to this morning and was just a lot darker and more certain than the last two! I didn’t do opks or temping the first 2 months so I don’t know when I ovulated or IF I ovulated! First cycle after breakthrough was 30 days then 28 days so I assumed I ovulated somewhere between days 13-16 but this month looks like it’ll be cycle day 21! I’ll know tomorrow or the day after if my temp rises. Hopefully it’s just a longer cycle otherwise it’ll be a very short lp! I won’t be going back on hormonal contraception again. It’s made me realise just how much it messes up our bodies!

Thanks ladies, we’ve DTD again just to be safe. Fingers crossed !
