Is it possible to have 2 periods in one month and miss the next month

Hi looking a bit of advice, my period came like clockwork last month and lasted the normal 5 days for me. A week later I started spotting which lasted 4 days. I had protected sex during this time.I was due to start my period on Monday but as yet still hasn't arrived. I took a test just to be sure and came back negative.
Any advice?

how old are you?
if over 40 it might be peri menopause...
