Not getting pregnant

Aunt flow arrived and I'm feeling like this pregnancy thing will never happen.Really thought we had it this month. Ddd on day 12, 14 and 16 and ovulated on day 18 or 19. Opk stick went red, but didn't detect any temp change. Just wondering now if you csn get a positive opk and a monthly period, but NOT ovulate? Anyone know?
Thanks.

Yes, a positive OPK does NOT confirm ovulation it just suggests your body is getting ready to ovulate. Remember though even if you get everything right date wise and ovulate there’s still only a 25% chance x

Hi. Which day did you get your positive OPK? Its possible you had an LH surge but did not ovulate if you didn't get a temperature rise, do you have a temperature chart you can share?

TheDaydreamBelievers · 28/10/2020 21:01

As others have said, you need basal temperatures to confirm ovulation.

How long have you been trying? X

Hi,
I got a positive on day 18 and earlier on day 10. I seem to get two positives every month. Have been trying for about 6 months and I'm 40...eek. Periods are regular.
The only problem i have is high prolactin. I had tests and a scan, but no cause was found for the mildly elevated prolactin and endocrinologist thought it was just one of those things. Apparently it can just be higher than normal for no reason in some people.
I have a very stressful and physically demanding job. I suppose it could be stress Getting quite worried that I'm too old now to get pregnantShock

Sorry no temp chart. I'll start monitoring it much more carefully.

@annem3 remember it can take a year with no issues whatsoever. At 40, you can get investigations at 6months, have you requested these yet?

So you last had sex 2-3 days before likely ovulation? I would try and have sex closer than that. Are you using lube? I’d highly recommend pre-seed as a conception friendly lube to help the sperm swim to the egg.

Ilovecheese53 · 29/10/2020 06:58

Do you have the app “FLO” it’s quite good.

Puddlelane123 · 29/10/2020 07:11

Just my first instinct but I would bin the ovulation kits next month and just have sex every 2 days throughout your cycle. You may just be missing your ovulation window slightly. Really hope it happens for you soon.

I see

I agree with the previous poster suggesting keeping it simple and dtd every second day through your cycle (or every day when you feel like it... I know people say that can reduce sperm quality but honestly if you feel like it, why not give it a go for a few months?). If your ovulation testing is giving 2 possible ovulation dates then just dtd more is likely to be more successful than trying to target a specific time. I would also request testing now you are at the 6 month mark.

Sorry hit send by mistake.
I second @Puddlelane123 with sex every 2-3 or 3-4 days. Can you check your cervical mucus as well? Nothing tedious just knicker watch until your discharge starts getting a bit slimy then you know you will be ovulating. I tried opk once first time this year and it showed nothing first day, a faint positive second day and nothing the day after. Ditched it and went back to my usual method got pregnant next month.
Used this method to conceive my two kids and I know it won't work for everyone but it is worth a try and no buying opk strips.

Also I apologise if this is a bit personal but I have read that orgasming after your partner has ejaculated is quite important so this might be worth exploring if it doesnt happen naturally during the act itself. I know that after months of trying the sex became less ‘enjoyable’ for me (understatement!) and after reading this I made sure that I took a diy approach immediately after each bd session. Something to do with the orgasm causing the cervix to dip into the deposited sperm and help move it along. It was a more scientific explanation than that but you get the gist!
