The earliest possible scan

Anyone know the earliest point a scan can pick up a fertilised egg or something developing in the womb?

I am not expecting to be pregnant but I had a fertility treatment scan yesterday (both inside and out). I am probably 10dpo, if there was something there would it be seen?

Again not expecting to be but you never know 🙂

Hi @Honeyandapple If you are 10 days dpo and the egg has Just been fertisilsed, I Think it’s all pretty microscopic at that point - happening at the level of cells so not possible to see on a scan. Though I’m
Not sure at what point you can first see it, I know that by 6 weeks they can possibly but not always see a heartbeat. So I think that’s the earliest they can check things are moving in the right direction.

Best of luck this cycle!

6 weeks is the absolute earliest anything can be seen on a scan and even then sometimes they still can't see anything. 7 weeks is the earliest you can guarantee something will be visible and they'll be a heartbeat.

My ectopic was seen on scan at 5weeks 3 days.
Anything earlier and I don't think it would have been picked up

Sparks2 · 20/10/2020 20:35

^^ I've had a scan 3-4 weeks and it was picked up

LockdownLove · 20/10/2020 20:37

I had one at 5 weeks and the sack was visible. Went back 10 days later and the heart was visible. He is 20 now :)

wwud12 · 20/10/2020 20:44

I was 6+2 and the sonographer so it was the smallest heartbeat he had seen. I think he was new and it made his day.

Honeyandapple · 20/10/2020 21:49

ah @wwud12 that's awesome!

I wasn't expecting anything but inside I was wishing she's say 'oh look what we have here.. Grin'. Of course that didn't happen. Holding on to hope that it could have been too early.

@Honeyandapple lol we are all holding onto hope! I think I would be the same. Fingers crossed for you! 🤞

I had a scan at 4 weeks and 4 says so approximately 18dpo and a thickened womb lining with possible gestational sac was noted on an internal scan. A yolk and tiny fetal pole inside a gestational sac was seen at 5 weeks 3 days and a heartbeat was visible at 6 weeks exactly (all internal scans)

Honeyandapple · 21/10/2020 07:49

@Sevo7 how amazing Thanks for sharing your experience.

You should be able to see a sac from about 5 weeks. I had a very early one when I must've only been about 4 weeks pregnant (only just missed period) and they couldn't see anything at all but 2 weeks later at a scan you could see a lot. I'm newly pregnant but waiting until 6 weeks for a scan (I would wait until 7/8 but this is a surprise 3rd and I have to confirm asap that there's just 1 in there...!!) hoping they might be able to pick up a heart beat at least.

Honeyandapple · 25/10/2020 20:12

I just got a BFP test this evening!
So I don't think she saw it on the scan, but when I ring the GP to get the results i'll let them know I'm early pregnant and see if she mentions a note from the scan or something.
