I'm at my wits end. Is it really possible to have negative results but still be pregnant

My period was due 1st October, except for a small amount of spotting, there hasn't been anything.

My symptoms all mirror early pregnancy symptoms;

Boob changes - constant erect nipples, nodules appearing all over, darker and larger areolas, prominent veins.

Nausea - daily, worse in the mornings and evenings

Frequent urination - ALL. DAY. LONG

Tiredness - usually go to bed at 11pm, I'm falling asleep on the sofa at 7.30pm

Food aversions - Certain foods make me feel sick, some foods (potatoes) I cannot get enough off

Lower back ache & hip ache

Jaw ache - one sided, feels like it's in my cheekbone, giving me headaches

Increased heart rate - I wear a fitbit and my RHR has gone from 68 to 79 in the last 1.5 weeks

However, all my pregnancy test results have been NEGATIVE (last test was two days ago)

I feel different, I know my body, something is going on. I have a doctors appointment at the end of this week but if calculations are correct I should be 6/7 weeks. Is it really possible to have negative results but still be pregnant?

Yep I did 11 tests- all negative. I have a beautiful 16 yo beside me. I wasn’t producing enough of the hormone to test positive apparently. Your doctor should be able to help, get them to do a physical examination of your stomach, that’s how my doctor confirmed it.

maisythehorse · 20/10/2020 11:32

In rare cases but most would get a least a faint line, perhaps your doctor could do a blood test.

BorisandHarriet · 20/10/2020 11:37

I had many negative tests between 4 to 6 weeks and only got a positive at 6.5 weeks. Baby is now a teenager.

Baconbuttie88 · 20/10/2020 11:44

Thanks everyone - the frustration is my doctors seem to only want to offer a telephone appointment, they are not interested in taking a blood test. I've had 2 calls with one more at the end of this week, I just want to know!

Op many of these symptoms are not pregnancy related and you could have something else going on.

Emeeno1 · 20/10/2020 11:50

Do you want to be pregnant? What we think matters a lot to our interpretation of physical symptoms.

MrsKin90 · 20/10/2020 17:43

Is it possible you ovulated when you had that tiny bit of spotting? Post ovulation hormones can cause all sorts and RHR often goes up shortly after ovulation as well.

234mu · 20/10/2020 17:56

Definitely a possibility. Wait a few days and test again? Good luck keep us updated

justwinginglife1 · 20/10/2020 17:58

My cousin never tested positive on shop bought tests, each time she had to go to the doctors for blood tests to confirm. She has 3 children

Pikachubaby · 20/10/2020 17:59

I am not a doctor... those symptoms could be pregnancy but also flu

False negatives are a thing, I had a few false negatives when I was pregnant

Hope you find out soon!

goisey · 20/10/2020 18:16

Do you want to keep the baby?
If so can't you wait a couple of weeks and not drink/smoke etc for a bit until you know?
If you want to have an abortion I would try ringing Marie Stopes etc and see what their advice is.

Chica1990 · 20/10/2020 21:21

I watched a YouTube video with a girl who was pregnant and never had a positive shop bought pregnancy test.

Fingers crossed it’s the outcome you want!

physicskate · 20/10/2020 22:10

Fitbit detects ovulation using rhr. Most people get thei period about 2 weeks after a rise in rhr. I'd be suspecting your period will arrive in about half a week.

Baconbuttie88 · 20/10/2020 22:45

I really appreciate everyone's comments. Yes I am wanting to have a baby but at the same time not in any immediate rush, having the "it'll happen when it happens" mindset. But this is just bizarre, my body has never done this before. I'm getting absolutely nowhere with my GP and seem to be uninterested so I have a private blood test tomorrow and hopefully by Thursday I know what I'm dealing with and can take it from there! X

@Mixitupalot how many weeks were you when you found out? Did you ever get a positive test result or was it via bloods? X

OP posts:
grafittiartist · 20/10/2020 22:47

My first two tests were negative.
I knew my body felt different though.

mummyjojo19 · 22/10/2020 20:51

Did you get your private blood tests? What was the outcome? Xx

TheDaydreamBelievers · 22/10/2020 21:38

How did it go @Baconbuttie88?

sausagedoglove · 22/10/2020 21:40

It's very rare but happened to a friend of mine. She just knew she was pregnant but two home pregnancy tests came back negative. Eventually got a blood test with a doctor who confirmed her pregnancy!

234mu · 23/10/2020 14:25

Did u get the blood test results? x

Baconbuttie88 · 23/10/2020 16:08

So, results came back today 5.2 HCG. Said either end of a pregnancy or start of another.... I'll assume the end considering my symptoms
