Hi everyone...I’m new here so apologies if this has already been mentioned in another thread or I don’t write in acronyms yet...I will learn eventually I hope! I’m 36 years of age and we have now decided to try for our first baby. I have been browsing different supplements online and reading reviews. Pregnacare have a Conception supplement (30 in the pack) and I’m considering buying this...they are on offer 3for2, should I buy x3 of the conception packets? I don’t want to tempt fate and buy the original but I do want to try and take the right thing. It does say on the packet up to one month before conception and then three months after conception. I’m just looking for some advice what have other people tried/what would you recommend. I am nervous and clueless so will need all the help we can get. TYIA! Katie x

Hey! I stopped my pill on 13th Sept and started taking these straight away. I was also thinking exactly the same, should I buy 3 packs or tempt fate and only buy one or two. Anyway, I bought 3, thinking my firs proper period would probably be a while having been on the pill for years. I started taking them straight away and my first cycle was absolutely perfect - 28 days! If it helps you decide, the use by date on them is about 2 years, so even if you get lucky enough not to use them all, if you plan for another you could always start taking them again post baby 1! Chances are though based on statistics you will probably get through most of them!

@AMS19 Thank you so much for your reply! Good thinking! I did not consider an expiry date. I think I will buy x3 of the conception ones.

Also, are you taking any other vitamins or supplements or just the pregnacare? For a couple of years I have taken calcium and magnesium supplements but I’m thinking to stop taking these as I start the pregnacare?

No worries!
I started taking evening primrose oil because people said it helps another with EWCM?! I dont get any, probably from being on the pill for so long, so decided to give it a whirl! You only take it up until ovulation then stop. Those tablets are even bigger than pregnacare, takes me about a minute to build up the courage to swallow 😂😂😂

Are you coming off contraception? It is so exciting isnt it! Im very early on the journey but already quite focused. I'm tracking my BBT and using OPKs. In my first cycle off the pill I didnt ovulate I dont think, but again unsurprising really!

I think you just need to take folic acid and vitamin d rather than worrying about preconception and pregnancy vitamins. You’ll have blood tests around 28 weeks to see if you also need iron.

@AMS19 I came off contraception a while ago, we moved house and then I've had a family bereavement so plans/hopes just changed overnight as I was grieving.
I am regular with my periods, I have been keeping track of this. Like I said in my first post I am nervous and excited! I realise I am 36 and I'm not getting any younger! 🙈

@SunbathingDragon Thank you for the reply...I will take all the advice on board as I am clueless with it all to be honest. I have nieces and nephews but thinking of doing it myself scares me! So glad I joined Mumsnet! ☺️

Pregnacare didn’t affect my cycle length but I ended up with absolutely no ewcm. Since stopping it it’s back to normal. Also taking evening primrose oil to help with this which works so well but it delayed my ovulation by a week. Just need to remember to stop the evening primrose oil at ovulation

AMS19 · 17/10/2020 20:55

@KatieD847 so sorry to hear that. But it is really great your body is clear of those nasty hormones!! Really helpful having people to compare notes with so let's stay in touch?

@LT103 sorry to hear evening primrose oil extended your cycle. Really hoping it doesn't extend mine!

AMS19 · 17/10/2020 20:58

Also @KatieD847 I'm 33 so not far behind you!

KatieD847 · 17/10/2020 22:10

@AMS19 yes I agree, good to compare notes with others! I'm going to order my supplements tomorrow...I've downloaded an app to keep track of my cycle! 🤞🏻

@KatieD847 great! Fertility Friend is the best one for tracking I've found!
