Day 21 Progesterone Test Results

ThinnerByDinner · 14/10/2020 11:27

Hi ladies,

I had my bloods taken on Monday to test for progesterone. It’s supposed to be done on day 21 but that fell on a Saturday so I had mine done on day 23.

Just checked my results and it’s 32.8.

I haven’t got a call with my dr until Monday s wondered if anyone had any experience of this, is that normal? Does it mean I ovulated?

I’m currently having acupuncture and my acupuncturist said they would look for a result above 30 I think, I can’t remember exactly what she said.

Any wise words appreciated:)

Hiya, my day 21 blood results for progesterone was 67nmol/L but I think I’ve also read somewhere that they look for a number above 30 to indicate that ovulation has taken place so hopefully that means you did.

Juno231 · 14/10/2020 11:34

Any idea when you ovulated? Anything over 30 means ovulation has occurred, but perhaps ask if it's high enough to then sustain a pregnancy? Thing is if you don't know when you ovulated it may have just been taken at a slightly wrong time and hence it being on the lower end of the scale. The best time to take it is 7-9DPO so for me that was actually CD25 and not CD21.

Moominmiss · 14/10/2020 11:36

Also what Juno said! Make sure you had the test done at the right time. For me my day 21 bloods were actually day 23 bloods because I ovulated on day 16.

ThinnerByDinner · 14/10/2020 11:52

Thanks for your replies. I usually use the cheap OPKs and normally get my peak day 14/15 however this month I tried Clear Blue Advanced Ovulation Sticks and I didn’t get my peak, just constant flashing smiley faces so I’m not entirely sure. I felt (from my own symptoms) that I ovulated on day 14. I had my day 21 bloods done on day 23 because I day 21 fell on a Saturday.

Bit worried now that although it’s above 30 that it is potentially still low.

This is all such a mind game!

If you think you ovulated on CD14 and took the test on CD23 then that's a good time to do it. For reference my result was in the 60s as well so I'm not sure what a lower end of 30 ultimately means. Just make sure they don't dismiss you though if you do have concerns!

Boc86 · 14/10/2020 13:07

I think that’s a good result and means you ovulated
Mine was 18 at 7DPO but I definitely ovulated so I have low progesterone and am on supplements now

Just jumping on to say thanks for the info - I've had my day 21 blood test today. Feel I understand the results a bit more after reading this thread. Wishing everyone luck ✨

ThinnerByDinner · 14/10/2020 16:24

Thanks everyone. I have a call with the doctor on Monday to go though it properly, I was just trying to interpret them myself in preparation or impatience haha.

I’m currently on CD25 so waiting for AF (if it arrives) over the weekend/beginning of next week. Be interesting to see if fertility acupuncture has changed anything too!

So I just rung my doctor for my 21 day results and the receptionist obviously didn't know anything but said it was 34.9 but that I needed to speak to the doctor about it!
My surgery is a nightmare as you can't book appointments you just have to call each day to try and speak to someone so not holding out much hope!

SR12 · 14/10/2020 16:49

Also if it helps I found the below. This is the second time I have had mine done as I did't do it on the right day the first time, the doctor said day 21 of my cycle which I adhered to but I still think that might be slightly wrong as I have a 30 day cycle and some places say a week before a period. It is all such a mind field!

Measure mid-luteal phase progesterone (e.g day 21 of 28 day cycle; day 28 of 35 day cycle):
sample should be taken 7 days before the expected period and interpreted when the next period has begun

30 nmol/L is consistent with ovulation and no further biochemical assessment is indicated
10-30 nmol/L may require repeat with review of cycle timing

Mine was 32 and I'm now pregnant Smile so I think its absolutely fine. If egg fertilises then it tells your body to produce more I think and if egg doesn't fertilise then it drops causing your period to start x

Wearenotyourkind · 16/10/2020 13:37

Mine have come back as "abnormal" at 14 ☹️ waiting to speak to a GP next Tuesday.

Anyone had experience of this result?

Boc86 · 16/10/2020 16:57

@SR12 fab results
It’s meant to be over 30

It’s 7DPO you need to do the bloods
They say cd21 based on the average cycle and ovulating cd14

Ahh sorry @Wearenotyourkind mines 18 and I’ve been prescribed progesterone suppositories to take 3-14dpo then test. If bfn come off it, if bfp carry on to 16 weeks

Wearenotyourkind · 16/10/2020 17:20

Thank you so much for the reply @Boc86. Do you mind if I ask you a few more questions?

Wearenotyourkind · 16/10/2020 17:23

Sorry to crash your thread @ThinnerByDinner but good news on your test result though by the sounds of it Smile

ThinnerByDinner · 16/10/2020 17:27

This is all really interesting thanks ladies! It’s so confusing with such conflicting information all over the internet.

So I can assume by my result (even though it was day 23 not day 21) of 32.8 that i ovulated at least 7 days before then? It’s just I didn’t get a peak on the clear blue advanced test I was using - assuming I was doing something wrong or maybe they don’t work for everyone as my sister also didn’t get a peak on them but got pregnant.

Oh no don’t be daft it’s fine! It’s good to have a place to talk about it and find out info & experiences first hand!

Thank you @ThinnerByDinner it helps so much to share on here xx

Boc86 · 16/10/2020 22:04

Of course @Wearenotyourkind x

Wearenotyourkind · 17/10/2020 16:07

Thank you @Boc86 also - do I remember you from the short LP thread a while back?? I just wondered who prescribed the progesterone - your GP or fertility doctor? And if you remember what the process was once you had the 21 day blood test and it was confirmed you had low progesterone? If it was you from short LP thread - had the progesterone helped lengthen this at all? xx

PoliteMentor · 20/06/2025 18:55

@Boc86 I know this thread was ages ago but did the supplement worked?. Thank you x
