TTC after birth control pill

Hi everyone!
My husband and I are starting our conception journey. I was on the combination pill for about 7 years and most recently on the mini pill for about 2 years. I stopped my pill on August 26th and got my withdrawal bleed on September 22nd. I’ve been using OPKs since then but all have been negative which makes me believe I haven’t ovulated yet. I’m just wondering about other peoples experiences and how long it took to ovulate for the first time after their withdrawal bleed. Thank you for sharing!

Hi @ACNass we are in our first cycle of Ttc. It’s also my first month off the combined pill after about 12 years, I’ve decided not to use OPKs yet and just see how things go for the first few months as I don’t want to get obsessed. So I have no idea what my cycles are like or if I’m ovulating but but dtd at least every other day and seeing what happens. Are you taking any folic acid or anything? X

Hi @Purpleflowers21 yes, I've been taking prenatal vitamins for about 1.5 months now :) it's definitely nerve wrecking not knowing when ovulation will happen but just trying to trust that my body knows what to do

I don't know exactly when I ovulated when I came off the combined pill. But it was probably around CD23 ish, the second cycle was roughly CD21 but I also fell pregnant that.

My baby is now 13 months old and I've not been on any hormonal BC since June this year. I had CD14 (first cycle of implant removal), CD17, CD21 (I was ill around ovulation so I think that delayed it), CD17. I have a 12-day luteal phase so CD17 is probably about right for me as it gives me a 29-day cycle which is pretty standard.

@ACNass I'm in an almost identical situation. Took my last pill 13th Sept, withdrawal bleed 18th Sept, now waiting for first period. Lots of cramping and such sore nipples. All OPKs have been very negative, not even a hint of a second line! Sounds like we are almost the same timing wise

I came off my mini-pill 10th August, had a very small withdrawal bleed on the 24th, then a proper period on 24th September. I should be ovulating this week and 4 weeks ago I had lots of EWCM but no difference in temps and not a hint of a positive OPK. Using the clear blue OPKs this time around and so far have had 5 days of flashing smileys and nothing else.
I’m keen to know but seriously considering not using OPKs next month as they just stress me out!

@AMS19 sounds like we're on the same timeline! The last 2 days I've been feeling mild twinges of pain in my right lower abdomen but sometimes I think I'm overanalyzing and it's all just in my head!

@CharityRoyall agreed, I'm really wondering if I should continue using OPKs - they're making me go a little crazy. But that's probably only because they've all been negative. I'm sure if I had at least 1 positive OPK I'd feel so much better about using them next cycle

@ACNass I feel exactly the same. I’ve been driving myself mad looking at all these threads with people talking about all their lovely positive OPKs and it’s just making me feel worse. I’m going to stick at it the rest of this cycle just to see. I’m using Natural Cycles and it’s predicting I will ovulate on 14th October so we’ll see...even if I do get a positive the next thing I’ll worry about is having a short luteal phase 🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s an absolute minefield! I really hope we get a positive OPK soon!

@ACNass so many twinges!! Every day! It is so odd. According to my OPks I havent ovulated yet....

Hi all, after 10 plus years together we finally decided to try for a wee one.
I came off the pill late August and have had no period 2 months on. This isn't really helping answering the original question but it's good to know others have struggled. Last week it felt like something was stirring but nothing came of it. I've read it can take a while before your periods return.
