Coil removal

Hi, I am having my coil removed tomorrow and was told to avoid sex in the 7 days before if we didn't want to conceive. We do want to conceive and I've been fertile this last week so we have been having sex - can you anyone advise if there's a chance I could fall pregnant? Fertile days were 29th-3rd and I am having coil removed on 6th.

Thanks

Why don't you ask the person who is going to remove it?

3scompany · 05/10/2020 18:39

I'm in (or was in-last week) the exact same situation. I had my coil taken out the day after my predicted ovulation date. And was told by the nurse who removed it there was a chance as I'd had sex a couple days before. I then started bleeding 2 days later (period flow! No "withdrawal" about it....) and so I updated my clue app and I've a new predicted ov date for 16th October. So I'll start opks tomorrow and until I hit a peak.
Good luck! Xx

@caimiep @3scompany do you mind me asking how long you waited for an appointment for removal? I called my docs today to be told they aren’t doing them but got a call back tomorrow from a sister surgery about having it removed there

caimiep · 05/10/2020 19:11

@Theseptemberissues yes of course. I called last Monday and my docs were reluctant but said they'd do a consultation first which was Friday - however in the meantime I called the Nottingham sexual health service and got an appt for tomorrow so worked out quite well. Hope you get sorted quick. It's crap really because if you were on the pill you could just stop taking it. They should remove it as soon as you request it! X

Theoretically you could fall pregnant with those dates.

First time I had a coil out (to try for a baby) I conceived two weeks afterwards. Second time had it out due to constant bleeding so did not have sex just before its removal. The third time I had one out, it was weird! I had an appointment for something else and the gynaecologist announced that he was going to remove my coil due to some organisms on it. All fine. But it occurred to me later that he didn't ask me when I had last had sex! Had massive fear of an unwanted pregnancy that month! Anyway. Sorry for all the unwanted extras there Grin

Bells3032 · 05/10/2020 19:18

Technically yes but reckon the chances are quite low. I was told to wait a cycle anyway as your lining may be too thin to maintain the pregnancy

Theseptemberissues · 05/10/2020 19:19

@caimiep thanks! That’s v handy to know.. I work in notts!

caimiep · 05/10/2020 19:28

@Theseptemberissues oh cool - I'd suggest calling Victoria health centre they're really good

@firesong thanks for the response! Haha never good when you're left in fear for your period to start 🙈😅

Same as @3scompany here. I also had an ultrasound at removal and they measured the frigging follicle. Was told I would ovulate 3 days later. A week later I had a period (21 day cycle) and then had a (regular) 30 day cycle immediately afterwards.

caimiep · 05/10/2020 19:57

@PurBal was this Mirena or copper?

Which coil do you have?

I got pregnant from having sex BEFORE my copper coil was removed. He's now my 17month old DS. I actually found out we were pregnant 3 days before our wedding and we hadn't had sex since I'd had my copper coil taken out about 3 weeks earlier. I'd had it taken out so we could start TTC after the wedding, but obviously my body had other ideas.

So in short, if it's the copper coil (no hormones) then yes based on your dates it probably is possible for you to conceive, although unlikely.

caimiep · 05/10/2020 20:12

@mrsmummy1111 were you ovulating in the days before your coil was removed?

OP posts:
PurBal · 05/10/2020 20:12

@caimiep Mirena

caimiep · 05/10/2020 20:16

@PurBal ah I have copper so I think it's different as no hormones.

No I was tracking my cycles with natural cycles app and based on my BBT I didn't ovulate until after the coil was already removed, about 2 days after. We had sex the day before it was removed.

Sorry my apologies, if you ovulate before your coil is removed then no I don't believe you could get pregnant.

3scompany · 05/10/2020 20:35

@Theseptemberissues not at all. I called last Monday and my GP said I could call an sexual health clinic. Which I did (in Cambs) and they booked me in for the Wednesday. Mine was the kyleena btw xx

Bells3032 · 08/10/2020 16:33

Thanks guys. I'll try and stay patient. Maybe just didn't pick it up on my tests.
