Sperm movement and TTC

Hi all,

Just wanting to get an idea of people's experiences.
Anyone know how sperm movement will affect chances of conceiving? Told my OH has fast but undirected movement in sperm but all other parameters including morphology and count were normal.

Anyone had anything similar or have any advice?

Thanks xx

Final attempt at a bump! Anyone got anything they can share? Just for my own sanity :)

Sorry @Amesk no idea about direction
I didn't even know direction was a thing they checked!!

AmesK · 04/10/2020 15:20

@MrsTwentyEight Thanks for replying! :)

Yeah so I’ve been told the speed move at a good speed but apparently undirected movement, so just round in circles? I’m worried what this means for conception :(

No problem @AmesK
Ahh I see. My understanding was that they're wafted along by fertile CM towards the egg.
I wish they had explained what it meant to you rather than just telling you their movements are undirected....-_- I would not worry if everything else was ok - surely they would have told you at-least if your chances were lowered due to this? How long have you both been TTC?

AmesK · 05/10/2020 11:51

@MrsTwentyEight Yep that was what I thought but apparently they have to actively swim to the egg. My worry is that if they’re not doing that then how can fertilisation ever occur?
They didn’t say anything about what it means and I should have pressed for more answers but assumed they would tell me if this was a problem:(
TTC for 2 years now so am throughly fed up and just depressed with the whole thing!

What about you?
(Thank you for taking the time to talk to me xx)

@AmesK Ahh I’m sorry. I have been TTC for 6 months and it’s already killing me. I can’t imagine how you feel.
Wow I didn’t realise this. I would call them and check if it’s playing on your mind. What else have they suggested ? Do you have any more tests / appts ?
No problem at all. Some threads aren’t answered (has happened to me) because I think people just don’t have the answers ...:)

AmesK · 05/10/2020 13:00

@MrsTwentyEight Hahaha yes people probably saw this thread and just went huh? Grin

I think you’re right- I’ll give them a call because I feel a bit lost tbh. They didn’t suggest any more tests of anything for the minute but I think I need to push for better answers.

Yes it’s been a very long and trying process and I’m a bit at the end of my tether. Hope things go really well for you very soon. Sending lots of baby dust and hopes for a BFP your way SmileFlowers xx

Hi I don't have any amazing answers for you just wanted to say I know a friend who's partner has really poor sperm (completely different league to your OH) and he is making massive improvement using a range of supplements, so there is hope! I think one is Proxeed. There's lots they can take. You could do a little research on that maybe?
Also - if sperm reaching egg is looking like the main issue then IUI would be a great thing to try, fraction of the cost of IVF (maybe even could get on NHS if you're ok?) not sure if that would be an option for you. They just put the sperm exactly where it needs to be at the right time.
Good luck Smile❤️

*UK even HmmGrin

@TTCmyfirst Thanks so much for sharing :) I really appreciate the support! Yes you’re right, I will look into supplements and such. I just was left so confused with it all as they didn’t actually give me any more information. Have been trying to google stuff about undirected sperm movement but there’s not a lot about, so maybe I will stop focusing on just this one isolated aspect and look into male fertility as a whole :)

In terms of IUI, I’m waiting for Gynae to get back to me. On my last telephone consultation they basically fobbed me off and told me to give it more time and they would discuss ivf etc when this covid stuff is over. Very unhelpful and very distressing for me as well :(

I can see by your username where you are in the journey :p How’s it going? How long have you been trying for? Lots of baby dust to you!! Flowers

Aw that's really frustrating! Sorry they have been so unhelpful. I know NHS fertility support is still ongoing in my area, so only seems fair you get the same. I wonder if you can push for it or a second opinion?
I have actually just got my BFP Smile had been trying for several months following a miscarriage at the start of the year so I'm over the moon.
