Low hcg levels / miscarriage?!

Hi ladies I need some advice and this may be a little long..

So On 20/09 I found out I was pregnant, took a pregnancy test every day since and they were positive but quite faint
On 23/09 I started bleeding, started off spotting and then turned into bright red blood but not as heavy as a period .. on 25/09 took a clear blue test and it came back pregnant 1-2 weeks

Got a little worried so went to the early pregnancy unit on the 27/09 where they carried out a scan which they couldn’t see anything so they tried the vaginal one and they said they could see a sac but no baby in there but possibly because I was early and to re test in 1-2 weeks.. they also did a blood test that day and sent me home saying they will ring with results..
2 hours later the midwife rung and said she’s certain ive had a miscarriage as my hcg levels were 25 and they should of been higher, told me to re test in a week and sent me on my way with no follow up appointments.

Now my problem is where do I actually stand? Surely I should have of had more tests to see if my hcg levels were actually raising and to confirm a 100% miscarriage? I stopped bleeding 3 days later and since then I’ve just had pink blood every time I wipe, still bloated, feeling sick and weeing lots. I haven’t done A pregnancy test yet as waiting till Friday but could it be possible that my hcg levels could rise and it turn into a healthy pregnancy? My mind has been in over drive all week!

Unlikely I would think. I'd wait and see if you get a strong line on a pregnancy test. If you don't it was probably a chemical pregnancy and you can try again next month. I don't think I'd be going into a hospital again unless you have pain in your side and suspect ectopic.
Chemical pregnancies are disappointing but very common ( I had four or five before dd).

I had blood tests when I was miscarrying, 48 hours apart however the first one was 215 and then 21.

25 is very low so I can only assume that they knew with your level being that low you were miscarrying or having a chemical.

When you find out you're pregnant you're at least 3 weeks pregnant maybe 4 and if you went to EPU a week after finding out you'll have been around 5 weeks? The range at 5 weeks of HCG is 18-7,340 so 25 is in the range but barely and your levels double every 48 hours so a week after finding out they should be higher for sure x

I think if you're still getting positive tests when you next do one then call them again and ask for another blood test or something but for now I think it's unfortunately that you have miscarried .

I'm really sorry :( I know how it feels and it's rubbish.

Unfortunately this did end badly for me and I did miscarry! However last month I found out I was pregnant but I bled and my hcg levels were low at the start but I’m 7+ weeks right now and so far going good for now as I’m having weekly scans! Hope it all goes well for you and ends up being happy news!

@Mumma1998 I'm sorry that pregnancy didn't end well, but congratulations on your current pregnancy!

Seems like its very rare hcg levels in the 20's end well, so strange being in the 'limbo space'. Thanks for sharing your outcome and fingers crossed for a long and happy pregnancy this time for you!

Hi All

Wondering if you can help me as well - I am 4 weeks + 3 days I tested positive a week ago and it’s been 1-2 weeks all week on the clear blue pregnancy tests. I went for bloods today and my doctor is concerned as my levels are 79.5 and ideally he would like to see them above 100 so have to go back Wednesday. When I got home from work 8 hours later the clear blue test changed from 1-2 weeks (it was that this morning) to 2-3 weeks, I read on clear blue that the main levels of HCG for this reading is 153 … I’m clutching at straws and looking for a good news story before results on Wednesday! Can’t sleep and this was my last embryo … sorry for the rambling message x

@NJH8 When I was going through this, my consultant said he wanted levels above 70 at 12dp5dt which would be about the 4 week mark, so it sounds like your levels are low but not terrible.

I found these sites useful for understanding where my hcg levels were on the curve and measuring beta progression

www.betabase.info/

Good luck and fingers crossed for you

Thank you so much! I couldn’t wait till Wednesday to test again and went somewhere else and the levels had gone down to 57… then I keep flipping between negative tests and postive. My clinic were like different places will give you different results but I’m not hopeful for tomorrow! Thank you for replying x

2mumlife · 20/07/2021 16:29

@NJH8 Unfortunatley lowering numbers isn't a good sign, but I think waiting for your clinics test result before presuming anything is a good idea.

Also, don't trust your pee. I still tested positive on a FRER the morning of my second blood test when my beta level was just 5.

I hope it works out for you

Thank you! So incredibly kind xxx
