The control still looks a smidge darker to me, but I’d treat it as close enough

Not quite, keep testing - perhaps test again at 5pm and then at 8pm too.

The thing is I think this is the surge on its way down. I ran out of tests so missed yesterday, I’m thinking it was darker yesterday and now tailing off..

This is arguably a positive - so I would say its on the way up :) - try again this afternoon/evening and see if you can get the test line darker than the control. You should hopefully ovulate tomorrow/day after - so get DTD!!
